This is the threaded part of my speedometer on the back of the transmission...I am going to go with a GPS Speedo so I want to cap this off. It LOOKS like it's 18 threads per inch (if my math is correct) and I measured 0.823" in diameter in between the threads... I have no idea where to find a cap for this.... Is this a pipe thread? What am I looking for? Thanks.
Mine has a rubber cap with a small hose clamp holding it on. Turbo 350. Worked well for the last 8 years now.
Parts stores sell rubber “ crutch tips ” in the do it section. Get an assortment, slip it on, should fit snug, hose clamp to make sure it stays in place.
It's likely 7/8"-18 thread, common on GM and Chrysler. Google shows it's hard to find a plug in that size, but some spark plugs have that thread. Could potentially buy a sparkplug, bust out the ceramic end and weld closed. Spark Plugs - 7/8-18 in. Are you working on a TH350? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-20299 Or TH400? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-20301?rrec=true 700R4 or 4L60? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/icb-551961?rrec=true
I will take a photo of what the trans side looks like later and post. I think the guy that rebuilt it has it plugged. It’s an oddball- AMC (Ford) T-150 with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive…
Thanks for the tips. My "crutch caps" will be here tomorrow and I plan to use those...but now that I have it back together and bolted up there isn't much room at all from where the ladder bars attach. I could weld it closed, I suppose. Should I remove the plastic speedo gear from inside? What about snipping this cable off completely?
