Jimmy's flatheads were always the ones to beat. Over the years I enjoyed reading articles and viewing pictures of the modification's he would do to make more power. Finally when we made our first journey to Bonneville in 2016 with our rear engine modified roadster Ford Flathead powered of course I finally had the chance to meet Jimmy and talk with him about of all things flathead. He and I both chose an interesting path to making Ford flatheads run fast. He will be missed by all of us who love all things flathead.

When these shots were taken, Pappas & Stevens had held the XF/STR record for nearly a decade.

They had utilized the combination to nab gas & fuel records in Roadster & Modifed Roadster through the 90s.

Prior to this Y2K Speedweek, Jimmy stated that he wanted to bury the record and depart from campaigning the high maintenance flathead.

The 165.671 mph record set that day still stands.

Oh, thanks so much for sharing. I remember this matchup so very well. Dad worked his butt off to get the car built. I know he loved the intensity that only comes in a head to head brawl of a drag race against a worthy opponent.

    Thanks for that.
I wanted to mention that Jim Stevens campaigned a winning Boss 302 Maverick in the NHRA for seven years, that content is not permitted here.
