My 37 Chevy Ute still has the original 216 engine and related fuel system. It has a metal hard line from the mech fuel pump to the carb, about 30 inches worth. I was getting vapor locking. I split lengthwise some 3/8 rubber fuel line and wrapped the hard line from the pump to the carb. Secured with some zip ties along the path, it is obviously not stock, but looks fairly decent. It seems to have cured the vapor locking, at least the small amount I drive it since the fix has not had recurrence of the problem.

But sounds like Jim added the phenolic spacer and that his problem is more heat soak related. But insulating the fuel line may also help.

A really easy way to run a return line is to use the wix fuel filter.
Simply has 2 outlets, one smaller then the other for the return line. Just run it back to the tank and patch it into the vent line or filler tube .... A filter and 6' of rubber fuel hose could be a quick get me by to get home and make it better.

Might be time to install a Dodge flathead 6 in it .... would have the fuel line running right over the top of the exhaust manifold and supply you with all the vapor lock you want .... might even improve your ET times .....

I guess all my fixes work, or it's just too cold. No fuel percolation issues now

and when it warmed up, it started acting up. But then it cooled off again (weather), and now it's fine.

I'll keep plugging away at it.

Also got some inspiration today, and a new intake from scottyt....

It looks like the new avatar is an indication of the next version of this cool hot rod.

heh...I doubt I'll make it that wild, but I'll sure think about what it would take to do it. The tricky part will be figuring out how to put enough radiator in the car. Surgery required, I think.

and then find an Olds rearend

Yep looks like a street machine to me. Now if it gets a cage, then it's PS. ;)

  24. Plenty early vettes with big power/engines so there’s a way to keep em cool. Maybe check with @jimdillon he’s got a bbc in one of his and he knows more than most about the early drag cars

So as long as we don't add tubbs we're still just street machines and blowers and jungle gyms are OK? I think the limit should be 6 points or less for the gym to stay out of the misconception of being a PS car. Should I say, I won't if you won't? But, I do hope to run into you on some of these fun adventures. That is what retirement and street machines are for.
