Made a deal on a rebuilt 1950 255ci. Looking to slam it in the roadster in the next few weeks. Rebuilt by Phil Miller right down the street from my house.
Going to be an adventure removing it, it's about 6ft to the left, hahaha

 

Who knows what other treasures you'll uncover once you start the excavation!

 

A short block 57 283, v8 60, and a Rambler motor in there as well.

 

Felt kind of sad pulling out the motor I put together myself but. . . . . Got to make way for 255ci

 

I like the color... looks good !

 

Is it gonna fit with those 8RT pumps on the front, or are you going to switch them out for the shorter pumps and single crank pulley driving everything?

 

@Jeff34 nah, I don't think it'll fit. Looks like the belt will hit the distributor.

.100 over! If that's correct, she's a bit bigger than 255 now. I've heard you can bore some of those blocks out .125 but you've got to check a shitload of them out with some kind of sonic testing or something to make sure the cores were perfectly aligned when it was cast.

She's damn clean inside though, a sight better than the 255 Merc I brought home a couple years ago which had a very active mouse nest under the intake.

A couple years ago a fellow 'Snapper asked if I had a distributor hold down for an 8BA. Hes building a 28 RPU. I took it off the motor under the bench never thought about it. . . . Now I need one. So I made it.
I don't even remember what it's supposed to look like but I bet it's something like this

Offy intake has canted fuel pump mount where my old motor had straight mount.
After much consideration I cut and welded. MIG was not happy on that alloy!

Now I have to figure out how to fill the oil, hahaha

 

The fuel pump stand broke right off when I was stabilizing the motor on the hoist.
That's a gonner- new plan needed
But it's in

Yeah, MIG welding AL can be difficult. I'd TIG it myself, and I'd probably pre-heat the parts before I welded them. I've done that before with good results, especially on thick material.

 

Hard work and dedication and you will get there!
This a shot of my 29 Highboy 1970 after first layers of paint. Body was built of parts acquired from 6 different states. Friends John "Nick" Nericco, Dick Royer, Skip Readio, and others lent a hand in locating needed parts.

 

I want to thank @Ryan for the nice write up about this thread. I am humbled and proud for the recognition. He took the time to read through this and post a synopsis about my roadster. He could have written about a half-million dollar 32 roadster being built at a top shelf shop but no, he picked
MY roadster, put together from pieces in my 2 car garage mostly by myself and with the help of a few friends.
This site is where I spend my screen time and to be acknowledged and recognized is an unexpected thrill for me.
