Pretty hard to get to Columbus & get everything set up to start playing at 2pm. I'll have to remember the 3rd w/e when I'm booking next year.

I’m going to register before the cut off to get my shirt. ( end of April) I just am delaying it because I’m dropping the engine in my ‘62 Mercury next week, so if I get it reasonably dependable by then, I’ll register 2 cars! If my OT ‘71 is allowed, possibly 3.
I reserved a room in that area, so I’ll be there driving something.

Hey, I'm going to wear that shirt as well, just like all the other Hot Rod 100 shirts.

My hot rod isn't on any of them, and never should be. I don't own shirt worthy hot rods and I'm OK with that. I'm just there for the people, the fun, and the cruise.

IMG_1250.jpeg I just registered my son and I driving 2 different cars. I filled out separate forms for each vehicle. I’ll mail the check tomorrow for both.
NOW, I have to get my Mercury running! Dropped the engine in and plan on starting it and breaking the cam in tomorrow or Sunday. Then get it dependable enough for a 500 mile run.

IMG_1341.jpeg IMG_1338.jpeg Well, it runs, drives, shifts, and stops! Now to work quite a few bugs out. Tomorrow I hope to drain the tank and flush it and the fuel lines. Running off a can and bungee cord on the hood for now. Took it out for a Banzi run to break the rings in today. I just might actually drive the ‘62 and ‘63 this year.

Going through a lot of the same things with the 40, but we'll get it.

  21. I see your screw driver is stored so it is always very handy.

That was my ignition switch! :)
Seriously, I have a bad connection where the harness goes through the firewall. Tried to get the plug apart, and thought to myself-“I run the risk of breaking one or more of the other wires on this plug too!” So I just wired a push button switch up to the solenoid yesterday. Tired of having to jump the solenoid every time, and kind of hard when the gas can was still on the hood!
So now I’m running off of the regular tank, and can start by push button

A regular gas tank and a push button are a huge step forward. Been there, done that! I always felt pretty uneasy with a gas can on the hood and jumping the starter with a screw driver.

  24. I'm sorry to report that my rod is not ready to make the trip.
Don't feel bad for me. My back up plan is to attend the NHRA event at Joliet on Friday.
I hope to see everyone next year.
    Be safe.

IMG_1400.jpeg IMG_1401.jpeg IMG_1402.jpeg Well, I had a setback. Went into the shop Friday to find my power steering fluid totally drained out overnight. The front seal gave out. Scrambled to pull the pump and parts store ordered one Saturday, and should be in Monday or Tuesday. As long as replacing the seal goes OK, my Mercury is good to go. I even spent a few hours over the weekend cleaning it. IMG_1400.jpeg IMG_1401.jpeg IMG_1402.jpeg

The PS seal came in, seems to be doing its thing. The Mercury is back on schedule unless more set backs. Got my fingers crossed.

Oil change on the 49 Pickup is scheduled for tomorrow. I have a very good friend that runs a shop, he sponsored my dirt track cars 25 years ago. As my aches and pains grow bigger with age, changing oil has become a task that my friend can do on his hoist much better, faster, and easier, then I can do them laying on the floor under the truck. He charges me about $20 more then the oil and filter costs me, and I think its always good to have a different set of eyes look at things before we take off on another driving adventure. We have been doing this for several years now, if he sees something he thinks needs to be addressed, he tells me. I still undertake the bigger maintenance or repair jobs myself.

Then, it looks like Thursday will be truck clean up day, and it will be ready to go. See you all Friday evening at West Bend WI.

Ugh. I honestly have this Mercury running better than it has since I got it in ‘85,but……I lost 2nd gear on the MercOmatic today. Not enough time to pull it and rebuild by Friday obviously, so it looks like the LeMans is coming without its companion. No biggie, as I’ll still be driving in the run. Old cars do this sometimes. :)
