Ken, just in case you do decide to think about the "new" hemi, here is the email addy for the business:

    www.spsengines.com

They are located in Sugar Hill, Georgia.

As an example of their pricing I referred back to the price sheet I picked up at the Columbus GG show. A 2006 5.7 liter 300C Hemi w/auto - 0 miles - all accessories - factory wiring - ECM - 12 months warranty is listed for $6000! That's a brand new engine, trans (a six speed by the way!) for that kind of money. I don't know about anyone else, but that is one helluva deal. And, the best thing about this company is that at the various shows they attend they are always offering better deals on the Hemis. At Columbus, they were offering a 2005 Hemi w/auto and all the things referrenced above for $4995!!! It had 1600 miles on it and came with the same warranty as a new one.

I WANT ONE for my '63 Dodge convert. We'll see in the spring. Oh, I forgot to mention that they offer a complete wiring harnesses set up for us street rod/hot rod boys. I think the harness runs right around $700 for everything. Don't you want one too?

Damn, my head is reelin'! I could have some fun with that (at least on paper)!

You'll do us proud, I'm sure!!

  13. Damn Ken that will look awesome. I agree stepping into real wood cars looks like a m***ive step.
I would opt for the modern drive train the way you drive them.

Good luck - you know it will be cool any way you do it.

    Boones,

It was good meeting you. Your truck is an ugly little ******* that only a mother or a sadomasochist could love. You should have stuck around Hershey another day, Friday was bitterly cold and rainy. Good times.

you sir, are a glutton for punishment. I like the picture of it in the garage with the hood on. I can see the sedan roof peekin out on the other side - pretty low compared to that truck - that truck must be TALL

GET TO WORK- We'll see you next christmas.

I vote for a junkyard 413 - smoothed of course. That hemi and trans deal of 5K sounds good - but you'll need that cash for the Billet and rubber bands YO! Really - some of those 17" or 18" steek smoothies would be the ticket - I also like the way that yellow one looks slammed - the wood stain looks nice too.

I say small Chevy with a 471. Wait - get a 455 PONCHO, theres a guy down there in Charleston that can help you with one of those.

are you going to tackle the wood yourself or do you have someone in mind--I've got a buddy about to start a 36 ford woodie and he's looking for someone to do the wood--can't wait to see how yours turn's out

Flamedabone can definitely build a poncho motor. That being said It needs a mopar motor. Dig through the yards and find a c-body land yaght. pull the BB/727/8 3/4 out of it and drop it in the truck. Those drivetrains are tough and cheap.

I honed my driving skills on a 48 Dodge pickup. I still have a soft spot (in my head, I guess) for them. I love it. I would be remiss if I didn't tell you to use a viper engine in it. Great power, good mileage, runs cool.

Congratulations on finding a woodie ! Volare front clip should fit, plus finding a Dana rear shouldn't be too difficult. You can also run the MoPar small block (318,340); they have plenty of power. COntact Doug Carr of Wood'n'Carr; he's been helpful to me for woodie tips.

Sweet! I would say "I like woody's" but I'm pretty sure it would be misconstrued and I'd have to spend years rebuilding whatever reputation I had.

So.... you going to buy a few gallons of Deft instead of PPG now? :)

one thing good about a woodie, very little interior cost (two seats and carpet only) and about a 1/4 of the paint cost (front sheetmetal only)....

Boones. forgive the super QUICKEE nature of these sketches (I should be doing many other things at the moment), but I had to doodle some things from my noodle....

This first deal is basically the surf wagon from the 60's with modern diameter deep offset 5 spoke wheels (18x8 and 18x10 with bigs n littles), some louvers in the hood and dash, stock front and rear. These rigs are so unique it's kind of a shame to smooth 'em over too much. Cloth roof with matching cloth ragtop.

Lazy Lou's Guest Ranch. 18, maybe 20 inch BILLET (Yeah, I said it) smoothies with an old Dodge cap. Cream on the wheels, Pale yellow sheetmetal, re arranged wood trim (cross of 48 and 49). Big *** tonneau covering everything aft of the front seat.

Congratulations, Ken, although It's a shame to lose you from the ranks of '53 wagon owners. If you need some help with the mopar engine choice let me know; I have some experience building the wayfarer.
