LEAVE THE SPRINGS ALONE. They will hurt you. There should be bolts that hold the hood on. Possibly two per side. Remove the bolts while someone holds the hood and it will be heavy so be prepared.

Yo Sarge, maybe it's time to call for reinforcements.

yes, remove the hood. no, dont mess with the springs. If you dont know these things, get someone knowledgeable to help you. Why is this posted under 'traditional customs'?

Yes, unbolt the hood from the hinges. Ie leave the hinges where they are at. If the hood is aligned nicely now drill two small hole through each end of the hinge where it connects to the hood, as far apart as possible.
Then when putting the hood back on, use a nail, etc to align the holes on one side while you snug (not torque) it down, then go align and snug the other side.
Once you are satisfied with hood placement when it’s closed, torque them down.
Edit: Don’t use the drill bit you used to drill the holes, they snap to easily. :)

Not trying to be mean, but if you can't figure out how to remove the hood, you probably should get some help from someone more knowledgeable to install the engine.
