Folks Of Interest Ed " Big Daddy " Roth's Autographed Actual Shop Door Can Be Yours !

I watched a documentary about a criminal who would modify antique coins to make them rare antique coins. He would solder ( I believe) different mint marks etc on them to make them rare. They could be discovered by freezing them with liquid nitrogen, which would cause the modifications to fall off. After he was caught, many of his “customers” didn’t want to test their coins because they didn’t want to find out they were fakes, rendering them worthless. Ignorance is bliss, apparently.

 

Yes, however, they still seem to be saying that the door came from Roth's shop. Crazy.

 

I’ve been watching this thread and I’m absolutely amazed. First the door has value for many reasons but mostly because Roth autographed it and drew the ballon’s. Second the people involved in the auction have been presented with solid evidence of the door coming from Bill Michaelson’s shop, Mark’s photo shows this. Third if proven to be a fraud those involved could be charged with possibly a felony depending on the amount of money involved I am not a lawyer or LE but other things like wire fraud etc. I would think that type of negative publicity would decimate an auction house. Fourth a person buying this item under false pretenses would have civil recourses and be able to sue for damages maybe well above the purchase price. Hopefully the auction turns legit.

It looks like they added a new description which is accurate, but failed to delete all of the original description. At this moment, both descriptions appear, the correct one followed by the incorrect one.

It does look like they are trying to do the right thing, they're just not quite there yet.

Well no matter to me. They think it's worth $20,000 and minimum bid is $5000. Even if I wanted it and was real deal I would not pay near that price.
I guess I'm not a art collector. It's worth $1000 tops and I wouldn't pay that.
I don't have a collection of wall hangers in my shop. It's a work shop not museum.
I did get his autograph in 93. I no longer have it though.

I bought a car from Volo in 2005, it was misrepresented in a video they sent me so when I received the car I called them out on the video. I was ready to send it back but I added up what I thought it would take to fix and they sent me a check……so it worked out for me…..

 

Read the terms and conditions for the auction , if I read it correctly they’re stating they, the seller or any agent have no liability to the authenticity of the sale. Why would you spend 5K + without a guarantee of authenticity? Very strange to me!

Pus 21% buyer's fee if you use a credit card and 7% sales tax. So make that $6400 to open and a $25,600 estimate. Not me.

 

And in 20 or 30 years it will be worth nothing, because every one will ask "who is Ed Roth"? All collectibles are cyclical, baseball card's that were once $100 are now $10.00. Stamp and coin collection's that were worth huge money are valued at a fraction they once were. Ask me how I know.

 

Pretty much, this stuff only appeals to a transitory culture...in the big picture, is pointless.

 

Those auction people sound like idiots..... or just professional-bull-shiters, flim flam scammers

 

Not sure what the date of this was and what shop this is, but it looks like there's some sort of monster painted on the walk in door.

 

Nah, they're just in it for whatever percentage of the sales they get.

 

This shop was on Atlantic. The shop they claim the door was from is on Slauson…

 

I finally was able to watch MFS #5 on Sunday, its almost the last segment and he talks about how he talked Roth into coming over for breakfast and signing the door. He felt bad that they only had time for an Egg McMuffin.
Then a couple minutes later @Moriarity tackles him!
I didn't want to share the clip out of respect for Piero, but that is all the evidence anyone would need, hopefully anyone interested in it does their homework.
Ironically his interview is right before the segment on the Von Dutch Auction.

 

Any one here what the result of auction was?

Yes at least they got the description right. And the people selling it wasn't able to carry on a lie to benefit their wallet!

Kudo's for Moriarity standing up and actually reaching out to someone instead of just b*tching about it and taking action and not just words.

It's a cool door, one I wouldn't have minded having in my own shop but not under the false pretense it was originally represented with.

It's nice, actually great to see all come thru on this and save some guy the cost of buying something that wasn't as represented, lord knows enough of that happens enough everyday!
