Earlier this year I told my Grandson I was thinking of selling my Dept 56 Snow Village. His eyes lite up and now it’s his. My wife and I had Thanksgiving at his condo and he set up what he could pack on the table that once held his TV. Yes all the cars are HAMB friendly and I guess I had way more than he could fit.
A buddies 33Chevrolet with a 320” GMC and 5 speed, could be yours for $89K. A rumble seat 37 Chevrolet Convertible. A 60’s Valiant with a 225 Slant six with optional dual carbs. Last a 59 Chevrolet convertible with factory AC and a Turboglide.
This was at a local cruise night last night, great little car with a bitchin engine and induction system off a Mopar.
A Cadillac Brougham in pits vs Donuts parking lot Hello, Nice array of photos of one of our old friends from the way back time machine. We spent countless hours in the Lion’s Dragstrip pits. First it was with our 58 Impala racing in the A/Stock class from the fall of 1957 to the fall of 1959. Then we got the bug to start our 40 Willys Coupe build with our first carbuteted SBC motor conversion. It was to run in the B/Gas Coupe/Sedan class. But, every time we set up shop in the Lion’s Dragstrip pits, our next door neighbor had traveled all the way from Arizona and occupied the next several spaces for his car and “stuff.” He was not a competitor for the drag racing. Although he was well known by most racers at the dragstrip. As the owner and distributor of Moxley Slicks Company From Arizona, he was a good salesman and made you feel as if you actually need a pair of cheater slicks. He was persistent and because he parked next to us almost every weekend, we got to know him well. During the 58 Impala racing days, after a while, my brother actually bought a pair of Moxley Cheater Slicks during one Summer season. Most of the top racers with their similar 58 Impalas and Biscaynes ran cheater slicks. It was popular for a couple of months until there was a big protest about not being stock tires from the factory. Since no one could buy the cheater slicks from a factory parts department, the tech committee deemed them illegal. Bill Moxley continued to park next to us and when we started to show up with the 58 Impala towing the SBC powered 1940 Willys Coupe we had put together, he was now interested in expanding his growing “slicks” sales to all classes allowing the use of slicks. No grooves necessary. So, the Gas Coupe and Sedan class was his push. Add a set of white wall smooth slicks to a modified Ford or Chevy sedan and race in the Gas Coupe/Sedan Class was legal and a hot topic. So, he found another place to excell. Jnaki One look at our stuff we pulled out of the tow car, (58 Impala for the Willys coupe) was all it took to see we did not need a pair of his slicks. We pulled out our original Bruce Slicks that fit under the 58 Impala in the earlier years and now fit perfectly under the rear fenders of the 40 Willys Coupe. No modifications and alterations to the wheel openings were necessary. The Willys Coupe was towed behind the 58 Impala to the drags with spare tires and then we changed over to the original 7 inch Bruce Slicks. In the front middle of the photo is one of Bill Moxley’s smooth tread slicks he was now selling to the Gas Coupe and Sedan class racers. Note: Look what he drove all the way from Arizona warehouse offices weekly to Lion’s Dragstrip in Wilmington/Long Beach area. A black silver Cadillac El Dorado Brougham. The only one of its kind at the weekly drag strip events. A rolling showroom delivery vehicle…! That is some classy parts delivery car… YRMV 64 years later, one (stock) shows up at a hot rod gathering in So Cal...
In New Port this morning…. Pontiac Bonneville Safari was quite a piece. Stock “appearing” upholstery but smell like fresh leather.
