how does a 64 buick eng fit in a model a is it a big problem my flathead blew up & i have a1954 buick eng
The problem with the nailhead is that it is a pretty long engine. I had to move my firewall back about 4 inches for my 401. The other problem is the starter is on the left hand side of the engine. I ended up using a "Steer Clear" setup for my steering linkage.
That's a "deep-ender" You're not telling us what transmission the car will have. Presume it has a Ford 3 spd. ? Do you have the Buick Trans? The left hand starter is not a big deal with a recessed firewall as jaracer shows above, and as my '29 has. Engine mounts,Trans mount, exhaust, lots may change. How bad is the Flatty blown up? See how we're gettin' into the deep end? Send full-sized pics.
This may help with your question. Post #14 https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/nailhead-in-model-a.939000/
1954 engines are either a 264 or 322, which is 1" wider in the bell housing area than the later 364/401/425. As previously stated, the firewall will have to be modified to accommodate the length of the engine. Exhaust manifolds that are center dump to clear the motor mounts and starter would work best, and the best ones came off of 1961 LaSabre 364 single exhaust. Transmission adapters for that engine a little harder to find but are out there.
