hi ya'll. i have a few questions and i know this is the place to go for my answers so thanks in advance for all the replies. i'm working on my 1951 crown vic with a 50 8bA where can i go for a step by step procedure for setting the engine up after break in? looking for info on timing, dwell, etc. also, i have the ford factory type headers and i was thinking of going with smittys. should i have a pipe between the headers and the mufflers? how long should it be? i also have a question pertaining to a duel carb set up. i seem to remember being told that i can use a 59A intake on a 8BA but it seems to me that won't happen. is that correct? thanks again.
Unbelievable…The holy grail of Fords….a prototype 51 Crown Victoria …4 years before the CV was available the public.
Do you mean Victoria? That would help with the noise. Should be the length of the header collector to the muffler. Do you mean a crossover pipe? Best to proof read and clarify what you mean. None of us have the car in front of us. You do.
If you want a 50's sound use cherry bomb or Smitty mufflers and put them forward to get more wrap or rearward to get less wrap,
I love my Brockman Mellowtone steel packs. Supports a US mom & pop, and their service can't be beat. Call him up and talk to him about what you have and what you want. He will make recommendations for length, crosspipe, and general placement.
Set dwell or at least point gap before starting. Then set timing static before starting. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/flathead-timing.1193605/ I'm sure there are a lot more and as mentioned in this post, lots of youtubes. To make sure that first start goes smoothly, read up on what others have done. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...t+start&o=relevance&c[***le_only]=1&c[node]=5 I don't have personal knowledge of this exact setup, but most manifolds/headers point down and back. Connecting a muffler directly to them would cause the muffler to point down and hang below ground level or point to the firewall. In some cases, the end of the header is even with the frame and level. You can bolt a muffler on the end for a first fire, but will want more exhaust in most cases.
Remember the auto shop cl*** your guidance councilor tried to get you to take in high school? It would have been real handy about now.... auto shop taught basic skills.
Your stock distributor will not allow you to use dual carbs. That setup must be attached to ONE Holley94. Dual carbs won’t provide the proper vacuum signal for your advance. To run dual carbs you’ll have to change your distributor. A 59A intake will work on that engine but it will cut off your ventilation flow within the engine. The only way to accomplish that would be to install a PCV setup. Lots of info on the hamb on how you can accomplish these things. Do a thorough search.
