Working on the rear brakes on my 53 customline and noticed that the previous owner eliminated the parking brake levers. I saw the sticky about using the mustang brake shoes but did this also include using the parking brake hardware? I must have missed this reference somewhere. Does anyone know if using the mustang parking brake parts will work? Thanks Ezrodder1

Yes, I replaced all of the guts with '67 Mustang parts and Kevlar Mustang pads.

Cool! Thank you! Did you use the 53 parking brake cables or use the mustang ones?

Thanks again! Unfortunately PO cut my cables and I will have to find new ones or adapt something else.

I don’t know about a 53 but by 55 there was only 2.One from the parking brake handle and a single cable to the rear drum shoes that had a loop over the adjustable part the one at the dash pulled on. I’ve included a parts view of the 55-56. IMG_0309.jpeg

Yes the 53 is similar with 2 cables. One from hand brake to under car equalizer and one continuous cable that runs to each rear brake with a yoke loop at the equalizer rod. I found that inline tube in Shelby twp mich may have the longer cable. As it’s special order I will call and get more info. Thank you!
