This may not be entirely forum appropriate to some but interesting non the less. Went back to Jersey to spend Easter with family this past week. While there I stopped by another HAMB member to purchase a Stromberg 97 for my son. Visited with a life long friend that has had a 64 GTO stored away for over 25 years and been off road since 1986. So happens my wife of 55 years dated in a similar car my senior year of HS. Another friend of mine left his GTO in my care while in the A.F. Kind of crazy in hind sight......leaving a 17 years old .... tri-power 4 speed car in my "care" Don't know how I ever saw age 18 but story for another time.
Well turns out the car is out of storage and my friend has decided to finally let it go as he realizes he will never get it back on the road. Car is partially disassembled but true barn find material. Glad I drove my truck not the wife's car! GTO followed me home through pouring rain for 1800 miles. Smiled all the way here despite the rain and now snow. Car now rests in the warm confines of our garage. Half my garage is now warehouse to Pontiac GTO parts.
Geez how many collector cars can one have?

Now you get to fix the stuff you broke while you helped him out.

My sister used to let me drive her '66 GTO, 389 4v at 16 for drivers' ED practice, wouldn't let me do a burn out. Rats.

I hope you will do it justice by using a 389 Poncho for motivation...

In 1963 I was 16 and working at a Texaco station. A customer, who was a bit of a story teller, told us he just ordered a new high performance Pontiac that was called a GTO. We just thought he was full of Bull since we never heard of such a car. Later that year he brought by the first GTO I ever saw.

Very cool! I was building a 64 GTO about 30 years ago before I got married. A wife, college, adopting a couple boys and life ended up taking priority over the car and I sold it in pieces. Anyway, I have a soft spot for those. Congrats!

Great car, congrats. Even though I've had my 68 GTO for 44 years now, the 64-65 always a favorite to appreciate. Sounds like your new car is complete and just needs some TLC and reassembly. No such thing as too many old collector type cars.

Thank you for all the positive responses. My 15 year old grand son sat in the car and did a dry run through the gears. His response...when can we do the first burn out Pop? That my friends is special!
Tomorrow I start sorting parts and doing inventory. Can't wait to start this journey.

I’m a bit confused.... I understand that this is your old friend’s car but is it the one you were entrusted when a friend went into the AF?

    Cool car/story nonetheless!

What a score! The right place at the right time for you.
That and the 65 were the best, IMO.
    And it has Torq Thrusts!

Homologated. John DeLorean stole that from Ferrari. It means the manufacturer built enough of a model to be authorized to race in "production" classes. But I'm betting you knew that. And yes I want one badly.

still don't know what omalogato stands for....
