    After a little time off from the Model B I’m back at it. I needed to focus on the homestretch of physical therapy (extensive shoulder reconstruction) and a return to work. Needless to say it’s great to have that behind me and to focus on working on a 92 year old truck.
    As it sits right now. I want to be driving it May 1. IMG_5672.jpeg

    Thinking about checking in....been rebuilding T coils for a buddy and we will see if we can make it run IMG_20240331_085359295.jpg out with the old capacitor...
    They time so much better with a good capacitor....

    Walked past Dad's Roadster, May be time to remove the plugs and pour some Kroil in the cylinders.

    Time for re-do.

    I've replaced the frayed wire as a temporary fix for my wiring issues.

    Next step is the design and sourcing of the new wiring components for a total rewire.

    Anyone converted an F100 steering box to suit a model A light switch?

    Make sure you get the high DV/DT caps.

    A bigger than expected tax refund makes me think of using a Burtz instead of my B w/C crank for my flathead build. I'll still use my other B for my Rutherford OHV race motor.

    Still here! Been working on everyone else’s stuff rather than my own lately. Kinda pissed at my car right now… but will get back at it soon enough.

    Right now working on building up a set of 72 spoke 26” Houk wires for an 1920 Indy 500 recreation. Gettin closer…

    Like all things that get reproduced there has to be a pile of equipment to drill & dimple holes, make rims & hubs and just plot the placement of holes. Nicely done, always enjoy looking at stuff like this. Bob

    We are in the process of building another banger using a S10 T5 this time, used a jeep the last time. I just talked to Dave at Performance Metalworks for the adaptor using the AA bellhousing and the rear closed driveshaft adaptor. He has it all. T5s, especially the 4WD type are getting hard to find, so he has started making adaptors for the AX-5 which was used in Jeeps after the T5. It is slightly smaller and found in many different product lines and about the same strength as the T5. I am just mentioning all this because T5s have and are very popular in bangers.

    Cylinder scuffing question (ordered 0.040 over rings), getting ready to order a hone, is there a preference for grit? The interwebs says 180 to 240. As there isn't any significant wear or nastiness, thinking that a nice refresh and crosshatching and property gapped rings are the path forward.

    Checking in and am curious for those of you in the Southeast which event you would recommend to find parts for my 30 Coupe. The Charlotte Auto Fair or the Moultrie Swap Meet? I am pretty much equal distance from each event.

    I was taught that the cross hatching should be as close to 90° as possible. Not sure about grades

    Is anyone running one of the Dan 4 Banger finned 7.1 flatheads with the model B water pump? Like it or no?

    Mine too, I like the idea of running the B water pump. My google foo hasn't turned up any reviews or anyone who has/is running this head so no luck there.

    A good B pump is harder to find and more expensive than an A one.
    Dan gets $425 for his aluminum repop.

    For you guys asking....I have a banger acquaintance that is running an older casting of the Thomas head that 4 Banger Dan Price made. His car runs reasonable with a Stipe 330 cam, a little larger intake valves, downdraft intake with a Holley 48 carb. As I recall he is running a B dizzy.
    It is a noticeable increase from stock. Dans new head has some improvements
    I have a couple B water pumps, both leakless conversions that could be had to help with my travel funds for wearing out my bangers

    There's also some patterns being worked on at the moment for an Aussie made banger head, no more details than that at this stage, but this guy gets things done, so looking forward to seeing it :D

    While we are talking about heads. What does the group think of this one? I bought it a year and half ago used but “new” before I knew anything. I still know nothing but I’m committed to banger building.
    Anyways, I lack confidence in who made it and I believed it could have have been machined or (finished?) better than it was. It definitely has had some handy work done for valve relief that looks inconsistent at best. It seems that it would need to be cleaned up and should be matched, Please educate me.

    If ya got it- run it and see how you like the result. Looks like an OK casting. Watch your deck clearance and piston height- A block that has been surfaced a bunch will present issues, and then you are looking at special pistons or finding some that have enough meat in the dome to get a zero deck height. Gonna be lots of compression, so watch your timing.
    A little die grinder work with a burr and a few cartridge rolls and the valve pockets can be blended in. You could run it like it is and probably never know the difference, but you will sleep better at night knowing you did it right. Nothing wakes up a banger like a good cam and lots of compression.
