While disassembling my dual Stromberg 97s I noticed that one of the carburetors has some damage to one of the 'tubes' in the air horn section. As you can see from the attached pictures it is the carburetor on the right. Is there a problem with reassembling and running this carb? If so, what would I experience? I purchased both carbs used about 3 years ago and just recently put them on my 1950 8BA flathead. I haven't noticed any negative running problems. Also, if anyone knows, what would cause this damage? Thanks

My uneducated guess would be someone had it disassembled and dropped it. If it ran good before, don't worry about it.

Carburetor termites! Looks like you caught them in time.

  6. I also see some square notches in one set of "tubes" and not in the other. As long as they are rated to flow about the same, I wouldn't worry too much about the tube top ends. The bottom ends being the same, along with the venturi and butterflies, is a more important detail.
