I had a terrible day in the garage. It's 90 percent back together and was fighting a bolt since the factory one broke and had to make something work for the seat. Had it jacked up and did not even notice it happen until after. I think when I lowered it to move the jack to get the door open I had the jack stand laying on the ground and my car is so low it causes it.

Bummer! That can only be categorized as a severe kick in the ass! Even worse than the "two steps forward, one back" scenario. Persevere, overcome!

  13. Sorry to hear, and welcome to the Club. A few years ago I was just tighting the header bolts on the delivery when it slid off the jack stand. It had a shop rag on top of the stand to protect the paint. It crunched the front of the splash aporn on the drivers side. A lesson learned the hard way. Notice the red primer in the picture until it got fixed. We break'em, and fix'em. 20170416_114815.jpg

That sucks that it happened because you were trying to be careful.

I have some rubber pads for the top of my jack stands to protect the paint. They were $10-15.

    I feel your pain...
Unfortunately it comes with the territory
I had a stand come loose from its mooring while transporting it. I use them to lower the back of my enclosed trailer on to, so I can drive in and out of it unhooked from the tow vehicle. It beat up an unobtainium wheel beyond the point of repair....I do dumb things doing things I enjoy

Sorry to hear this, it's not funny when this crap happens. Need to bear this in mind when I go to the pig shed where my car is to work on the front brakes this WE (the only way to jack it up is with two jacks, one on each side of the car on a rickety wooden floor)...

I'd finish the last 10% of the car and leave that dent in there for a while. Makes a good story, and you know the very moment you fix it, you'll put a mark in the red paint somewhere else that'll be need to be fixed, too. Wait until it's earned 2 or 3 dents, then fix it.

  20. As everyone has stated, sorry,:( and feel your pain. I have been where you are more then several times. The best advise I can give is try to move past this , repair and move forward. ;)

  21. So roll it back to 89% done.
Take a break. Do something you enjoy to get your mind off it for a day or an evening. Tomorrow will be a better day.
Sometimes you hit a speedbump. Sometimes you are the speedbump. But the important thing is to keep moving in the right direction in spite of any bumps.

  22. I ran my bus into a curb at a gas pump.
    Bent the fender and bumper
Bent the top of the rear door using a lift. It hit the top shop door opening.
Hung the side door mechanism on a curb
Bashed the bottom of the cowl on speed bumps
    That’s why I don’t paint mine :)

remember, the only ones that haven't had an accident like this, are the ones that have never done anything before....

Had a similar event with my '36 after it was freshly painted and assembled. Ran into the bottom edge of a rear fender while moving some storage boxes in my shop. I fixed it and went on with life. Sucks, but life does, every once in a while!

In the meantime paint both rockers with semi gloss rattle can black...it’ll look lower and sportier!

I am so afraid of joining this club, I put the jack stands back in the rack and check under the car again before lowering the car.
