Stock 216,split with dual gl*** paks out the back,I was thinking more for just looks...does anyone actually hook em up and run them with no muffs? Doesn't the chrome turn to ****?

lakes pipes... I rank them right up there with dummy spots, fuzzy dice, poodle skirts and lost in the 50's painted on the side of your car.

if they are hooked up they are kind of OK... just chrome pipes stuck to the side of your car? that would be the first thing I'd remove from any car I bought that had them.

  8. I'm runnin' em on my 350...... they look fine.... no bluein' yet.... been on there a couple years now.....

I know a guy who has 'em hooked up on his 53 chevy. has like 10" gl***packs, then the exhaust makes a u-turn and hooks up to the pipes.

  10. ....it's funny that you mention, takin' em off....

...this is the first car I've had with them..... I've run em for a couple years.... and I hate em..... or maybe I'm just gettin' old.... they are pretty loud, and on a long road trip, get kinda' annoying.....

...so..... I'm takin' em off this winter while doin' my makeover...... I'm gunna run regular exhaust..... and adding flamethrowers out the back......

I dig em. I had a set on my 53 chebby for a minute. Not that I didn't like them, but I kept tearing them off running over parking curbs. Don't ask about the parking curbs.....and Drinking and Driving Is Bad!

Anyway, if you're gonna put them on, please for the love of God hook them up. If you're gonna just throw them on for looks, make sure you get a crying baby doll, and one of those food trays that hang on the window with all that silicone covered food on it.

I got a chomed pair from Moon, the chrome ****ed ***. I had a set of stainless ones too, but I never put them on my car. Stickylifter has em now, so ask him in a few months how they hold up.

I really like them on the right car, by that I don't mean make and model, more so the overall style of the car. Most cars I don't like them on, they just look like some chrome **** you bolted on just because. But some cars they complete "THE LOOK". Also much like dummy spots, if they don't serve a functional purpose, don't run them. I just recently stuck a pair on my 55 Olds and I couldn't be happier. They really added to the overall look and not to mention they sound great(no mufflers, just pipe straight from the manifolds) and where supprisingly not that loud. Just my two cents

Here's mine. I run them open most of the time but I have a lever between my legs that closes them and redirects them through Smitty's out the rear.
I like them as functional pipes not faux pipes.

I can't tell from the pictures, what are you using for the cutouts? How do you have the lever hooked up? Does it operate both or two levers? I have some on my 49 but they are terrible loud especially around town so I wanted to run gl***packs and tailpipes when I put the Fenton headers on the new 235.

  20. My friend's '52 is running straight lakes...they're loud as hell, but isn't that the point? :D

I was wondering when the search police were going to show up. not a moment too soon.

if every topic were searched before posting and then not posted if a post were found where would this forum be? where would the new ideas come from?

I like'em, most folks I know use the single caps and hook'em up.
I don't like the triple cap ones quite as much because I thing they look too busy.
P.S. I wouldn't run'em with a blower or high compression (turns'em blue) same goes for too much advance or a lean fuel mixture.

It took a while to tame them.. but I love my lakes pipes. I am running a 235 with fenton headers directly into the pipes. Initially I ran them with out any baffels .. Wow they were loud. I had alot of fun but was painful after a while. I put baffels in... a little better.. but still painful. This year I stuffed a few stainless steel chore boys ahead of the baffels.. perfect!!!
