Someone else mentioned it, so figured I’d start one. I pick up random key chains and fobs when I come across them. Nothing valuable, but have meaning to me. I always save the fob from a set of keys when I buy a car, even if it’s just a random keychain the previous owner was using, out of respect for the history of my vehicles. My ‘63 Pontiac keys on a ‘60 Pontiac fob, and some random ones I picked up locally.
Neat. Promotional give aways are almost a thing of the past. I’ve got a few key rings around here somewhere, I’ll have to dig them up and get a pic.
Here’s mine. From my employer- Plant tour 1983, GM’s 75th Anniversary- My son, 10 at the time, bought this at school for me for Father’s Day, a treasured memento- Ziebart, a Midwestern staple BITD, useful because of our salted roads- RR yard tour- No need for a description on this one- -
One more, but I think it started out as a token, or ??? Anyone recognize it? Maybe from a trade union?
Very interesting seeing the above round plastic ones. You could apparently just insert whatever you want in them. Here's mine. I bought it on eBay, because the tach pic matches the one in my car. I had no idea what the girl was until I posted pictures. Lady Luck. Probably just something someone threw together, rather than being made/sold this way, which makes it special to me.
Thank you for starting this thread, it will become a good one. This one isn't too old, just sitting on the desk within reach, I'll be back with some old ones once I find them. Bob
As a teen, I had one like the OP but it was a little mag wheel. Lost to time. I was kinda bummed not having any to contribute. Then today, when sorting '55 parts from my pals father in law, I found this blue one. Found my glasses and read it. Busted out laughing, 'ol Junior must have found a bar he liked! The writing on side "b" isn't legible. Had to pair it up with some vintage matches. View attachment 6028538 Edit - sorry about the pic, mods!
These are the only two I have right now. I don't even remember what the key on the Chevrolet chain goes to!
A few from the curio cabinet I set up with stuff that overflowed from my sock drawer just because I like looking at it. I need another cabinet now.
My dad collected 100s of old key chains, from the 20's, 30's and 40's, hung them from the head liner of his 39 ford and 50 merc, at least thats what he told me he did with them when I found a several shoe boxes full of them in the storage room of my grandpas basement when I was around 7 or 8. Everything you can imagine made into a key chain. I coveted those key chains for years, that is until I asked what he had done with them and found out he had given them all to my oldest son, who I named after him. I still think about them now and then and especially after reading this, I think I could talk my son out of a few, I am sure he would give me a couple if I asked, or all of them, my son is 52 this year , the key chains are where they belong at least where my dad thought they belonged and thats where they should stay. I will try to get some pictures and put them on this thread. They are amazing, dice, dealer fobs, guns, church keys, bottles, small lighters, peek a boo viewers with cheese cake shots of women and naughty jokes (lol), puzzles, oil company logos, car badges I could go on for awhile, thats boring till I get some pictures. I dont do the cell phone shit and Im just computer literate enough to be on the hamb. Pictures are hard but I'll figure it out.
Got this one in the glovebox of my '38 Chevy coupe hot rod. Never seen another..but you'd think they handed then out like candy back then. I was thinking of getting it repopped...
Sorting through the basement and I found these, yeah, I save stuff. I know the floor is down there because it’s holding everything up, we just haven’t seen it in years. Machine Tool Trade Show handouts- Hot rod related- Automotive - Miscellaneous-
