Really cool build! What are you using for the Liscense plate light? Looks nice and compact. I like the way have mounted the plate to the body!

    Thanks.
The license plate light is from a UK supplier, but i think they are available from quite a few speed shops etc. Here is a link to it......

I’ve finished off the fuel cap and filler neck. Got it sitting right to match the trunk header panel angle.

  6. Great build!
I just finished going through the whole thread.
I especially like the dash, and the trunk lid, and the fuel filler, and your girls' laughs during the test ride, and..., and..., :)

That's unfortunate on the gauges. SW used to be a good brand...

I’ve made a start on a hood top. Still a bit of finishing required but I wanted to eyeball it in place before I decide how it will end up. I plan to fix the two sides via a strap underneath.

Thanks Ian. It’s another area of the project that sounded ok until I did it, then I wasn’t happy with the raw edge of the sheet steel.

I have also managed to get the pedal surround changed. It looks much better than the slots I had on the previous setup. I made a tweak to the profile of the pedals and made an adjustable clutch stop to keep the majority of the pedals below the floor level.

And I made up a little alloy collar to go at the base of the steering column where it meets the floor panels.

Coming together great! All those non- clocked flatheads would about make me go cross eyed/ crazy but I don’t have to look at it you do lol. Thanks for the update. Dig that collar on the column I think I have something laying around the shop I may be able to force into similar service!

Made a start on the roof panel. I’m going to try using an old pup tent as a temporary cover, secured with Tenax fasteners. Not looking for 100% waterproof, just something to keep the worst off that can be rolled up and stored in the trunk for emergency use.

Haha, I will try and get them lined up for you, Tim. It has not escaped me, but just one of those jobs that hasn't gotten sorted out just yet! :)

  16. You could re-waterproof that canvass to improve its ability to repel water.

Originally it was likely given an oil skin treatment which you can easily redo yourself.
Here's a YouTube showing the process:

NOTE: I don't think you need to add the color to it for it to work (but I'm not sure about that)

Another method to waterproof canvass is to make it into a "Waxed Canvass" (None the less although this works well on new canvass it might not be compatible over top of the army's original treatment so perhaps test it on some scrap first.)
Here's a YouTube showing that process:

Thanks Gregger. Those are interesting videos.

I do plan to re-proof it some way, as it's pretty thin. There is a product over here called 'Fabsil' that is available in a can or a spray for not a lot of money. I was going to try that first. It's not as traditional as dressing as a frontiersman and applying it in the woods, but maybe it will get me a decent result :). I certainly don't want to color the material I have, or even make it too much darker if I can help it.

Being a country boy, I have been known to wear a 'waxed jacket' from time to time, which is made with a similar material to the second youtube clip. The re-proofing for those coats is also available over here in spray form.

We (read: my wife) are going to fold a hem on it and I have some 1.1/2" cotton webbing on the way to help strengthen the seams where the Tenax fittings are attached. We may also lay some across-ways in line with the wood roof bows to protect them from rubbing through.

  18. There is a lot to like in this build. A big thank you for laying it all out for us in pictures, words and videos. It means a lot to a bunch of us, as you have heard. Keep up the good work and enjoy.

Thanks for that - it means a lot that you have mentioned it and to have the support of this forum. It's hard to know how many folks are even looking at this thread. But laying bare what I am doing somehow encourages me to try as hard as I can to make a decent job of it (by my standards).

For every comment there will be dozens of readers & folks who are 'following' (I hate the term "follower's" in the social media setting) along. Your's is another thread I look forward to reading when it pops up,
I have thought about utilizing doped fabric is a number of different application's. Your canvas insert is a cool feature

I have made a bit more progress on the insert with the help of my resident seamstress. It will need a couple of tucks at the front corners.

Don't worry about likes what is important is VIEWS that is the number of times someone clicked on your build but never made a reply. 41000+ views is nothing to sneeze at

It’s nice to finally have some decent weather. I have been playing about trying to get the motor set up. Still getting a bit of a stumble as I set off, but otherwise ok. Could be ignition as changing jets doesn’t seem to make much difference.
