Ok, so after spending hours searching for what I want to know I have had no luck. I have a good Halibrand 201 center and a 48 Ford diff for parts. The main thing I want to know is, is there a LSD conversion available rather than the stock 48 drive? All the QC info is all over the place and not easy to follow as everyone starts talking about different brand QC's. All help appreciated.
Yeah, after searching for a good week I'm pretty convinced you are right. Oh well, I still have a QC and if they have been working for fine for decades as are I'm happy with that!
I've had this question raised a number of times from customers. A couple mentioned Hot Rod Works. I talked to Nick and asked him outright if they had ever built one. He said that they had done so, but it didn't work out. We didn't get into details. I recently had a conversation with another customer who has a 201 with a home built LSD in it. He told me his father was a machinist and had built it and driven it all over the place. He recollected that it was based on Ford 9" components, but no idea of what the parts actually are. I will be talking to him again, soon, and try to get more information. Winters sells a Wedgelock for their V8 sized, rear ends. This pertains to their SR2220, SR2550. SR2220STB, SR2550TB and SR3605 rears. These are available in either 28 or 31 spline. It doesn't appear that this would be a simple adaptation as the Winters R&P are proprietary and not interchangeable with the Ford V8 stuff. For those wanting to know the difference, the ring gear bolt pattern is different and the pinion shaft is shorter on the Winters. Part numbers: SR1792V-28 or -31 Wedgelock Differential Current price - $1455.65 6811 Ring and Pinion 3.78 Current Price - $497.82 How bad do you want it? I would attempt to make this modification for a customer on a time and materials basis.
Hmm, being in Australia, our dollar is only 65c USD, that with shipping makes me think I would be happy without the lsd. Thank you for the info, almost at the point of selling the Halibrand and going with a Winters or a Pacific QC (www.pacificquickchange.com.au)
Can't find it but if I remember there was an article in R&C about this conversion but that was a long time ago?
Canadian dollar is similar, around 70 cents. How much power are you making ? I loved the posi in my daily driver barge.
I wont be running a lot of HP, a mild 401 Nailhead I was thinking an LSD would help more with the torque. My old daily driver had a Ford 351C with about 450hp and that was fun even with a LSD. My little A Model wont be driven nearly as hard!
