Wonder how quiet a 32 Ford pickup was when new from the factory? This is my 5th and the noisiest of all of them. Most noise seems to be coming from the windshield/cowl under dash area even though I've got new rubber around the edge of the windshield and can't get it closed any tighter. Also have some good weather striping on the front edge of the door and my wind lace fits tight. I'm wearing noise canceling head phones going down the highway. I am going to pull the original kick panels to see if the floor is sealed along the cowl side.
The floor is not sealed along the kick panels on a 32 Ford. There is a big gap an all the ones I have seen.
Probably not exactly related to the areas you mentioned, but my little T-CCPU truck makes a fair bit of wind noise at the top front of the door / A-pillar. When I hold my hand up there it almost all goes away. So I've been thinking of some old fashioned wind wings. LOL.
My 34 PU also has a lot of wind noise on the hiway. I figured we drive at higher speed than the stock trucks did. I think most of my noise comes from the visor area.
I insulated the back side of the firewall on my 34. And installed windlace along the leading edge of the doors slong with the doors top and back edge. My flathead is rather loud but never really noticed much noise from the vent or windshield area to a point where I’d need earphones. I still have a working vent and working tilt windshield too. I did install a panel with insulation above the windshield for my temp gauge.
Years ago, I called you and we discussed this. I think you said that you had one with a glued in windshield that was better. I had door seals on mine but I always wanted to run masking tape all around the windshield and the front of the passenger door to see if that was in fact, where the noise was originating. I always ran 70mph. At 50 it wasn't bad. My current project is a 48 chevy truck, same end result. Are we asking for too much?
No, or low, wind noise is a modern thing. Well, last thirty years or so, anyway . I THOUGHT I did everything I could on my car. Still much louder than the 1992. Ben
That truck was made for a top speed of 45 or 50 MPH. Makes a big difference going 70. Weatherstrip the doors, fill the gaps and seal the floor to body seams, and insulate the cab. Every little bit helps.
It’s the door hinges grabbing air , it’s a wind noise, not a wind leak ! Like blowing across a soda bottle.
ct1932 The first 4 deuce pickups I built were chopped. The quietest one was the first I built back in the 90's when glue in windshields were the thing. Used to do that with some kind of flexible rubber sealer that came in a roll and finished the edge with S10 windshield trim. I suspect that trying to eliminate the wind noise may be a losing battle but I'll keep trying.
