I got my rebuilt 292 back from the builder in Octy '23.It went straight into my 30x30 heated garage I am now getting ready to drop her into the ch***is but with a 24 breaker bar she won't budge.I oiled the cylinders thru the spark plug holes with MMO ABOUT A TABLES**** PER CYLINDER.!ANY SUGGESTIONS! THANKS. ,
Is this the firstime you tried to turn it over after getting it back from the builder ? If so, looks like the builder screwed up. Or did you add some accessories to what the builder did. If so, check everything you added on Trans attached - make sure nothing there is binding it.
That is a short amount of time for a fresh rebuild to lock up. If it was rotating free when you got it back then I would suggest checking to ensure your transmission is not in gear and that all of your pulleys are free. Did you prime the oil pump yet? Distributor gear binding up? You may need to dis***emble the engine a bit, starting with the timing cover and timing set just to begin eliminating problems. If you believe all is ok then get a can of lubricant and spray a generous amount into the spark plug holes.
If your close to the builder/***embler have him come over or load it up and take it to him….don't disturb ANYTHING he could say you screwed it up or removed anything or added anything. All bolts should be exactly as you received the engine from the shop if possible. Good luck.
I have has engines sitting in my garage for 30 years that I could turn the damper by hand when I thought about it.
Might be a dumb question but did the engine turn over after you got it home in 2023 or did you try it then? About the only thing you can do is to try unbolting anything that is normally an item that turns and try turning after removing each item. So remove the distributor, try to turn, if it now turns check the oil pump for debris, if not remove the rocker arms, try again, timing chain, etc. eventually you will be down to the crank and pistons. I am betting cast iron rings rusted to cast iron cylinder bore even though stored indoors. It gets very damp here in the northwest, I have had it happen quite quickly. Just my two cents worth. Mark
Another issue I have ran into in the past is the timing chain being installed wrong, although this usually lets the engine turn some before it stops turning. If someone is not familiar with a Y-Block and tries to install the timing chain dot to dot (like a chevy) the valves will hit the pistons. the dots on the chain face to the right when looking at the front of the engine and there are 13 (?) pins between the dots if my old memory is serving me correctly today. Just another thought. Mark
The rebuilder came and got it yesterday, waiting to hear from him. Ild ider came and got it yesterday
