My 49 Hudson Coupe is finally ready for the road, all the usual, brakes, fuel etc with a rebuilt 1952 308 with a Twin-H dual carb setup. Power to the wheels with a refreshed 1950 Hudson manual 3 speed w/OD and 4.11 rear, car is lowered 2 inches. Managed to get some shine out of the very rough 75 year old factory paint, interior is still in work. 20240423_114132.jpg 20240423_102831~3.jpg 20240423_102821.jpg 20240423_102759.jpg 20240423_114153.jpg 20240423_114141.jpg

    What a beauty.
Great job. That’s a keeper for sure. I’d love to get to drive it.

Beautiful, and good call on saving/preserving the original paint. :) No worries about your bumpers being overridden, either. :D

it's funny the odd things that stick in your brain for years and years. I have no idea where I heard this the first time:)

Lol....was kind of undecided on the bumper overriders, but I had them laying around and are an easy bolt on or off with no added holes drilled.

Way cool; one of my all-time favorites.
One vote against the bumper guards.

I love everything about it. The old paint, the twin carbs, the accessory stuff, all of it. Looks good with blackwall tires, too.

I did not realize that the 262 head would fit on a 308, I thought they were different.

When I was 16 and working in a Texaco station, I took a ride in a very stock 49 Hudson. I was amazed at the amount of power it seemed to have. I was driving a stock 54 Mercury with a stick and the Hudson seems to be just a powerful, maybe even more powerful.

    The 308, 262 and 232 heads from 51 to 54 are interchangeable.

I had planned on wide whites all along, and just put the blackwalls on it as temporary, but I'm really liking them now.

That's cool to know. I have an aluminum 262 head which is pretty badly damaged but neat to look at, I figured it wouldn't fit the 308 anyway but that's interesting, I didn't know that.

Very Cool! Wish it was mine. My dad was a Hudson man. He had a pu load of intakes, carbs and heads for the 262 and 308.

    Your car is so cool
These Hudson’s were chopped and channeled at the factory.
In stock height, parked next to a 49 Mercury, the Hudson’s roof is maybe 3” lower.
These cars don’t need to be chopped to be cool
    And they ruled NASCAR 51 52 53 & a bit of 54
    With a flathead no less!!!!!!!!!!
They were up against the Caddy and Olds OHV engines
And left them in the dust
They even sometimes won the race coming in 1st, 2nd & 3rd
    God bless them

Might be wrong but I believe it was common to fit the 232 head to the 308 to raise the compression. hudson (3)_lowres.JPG roadster (3)_lowres.JPG fullsizeoutput_58.jpeg

Yes, the 232 head was actually used on the 308 7X race engines, I just opted for a little less with the 262 head because I didn't want any issues using pump gas and head gasket failure with the higher compression.

I love everything about this car ( well, maybe not the overriders) and Hudson taillights are Kool with a capital K.
