There’s a pattern that’s developed here lately. It goes a little like this.

Have you heard this story of the Tri Five
    Race
When G***ers and Customs was settin' the pace.
    That story is true,
    I'm here to say
    I was drivin' that Chevrolet.

One you probably never heard of. We bought this '56 several years ago for my wife to drive. Was a concourse winner the year before. Look closely you will see something strange. It is the length of a two door hardtop but it's a 4dr! Called a Sport Hardtop Sedan. Unfortunately I never took a side shot when we owned it but I think you can see the difference?

All 55-57 Chevys are the same length. 2 door hardtop, 4 door, even delivery and wagon, all the same length.

I had to walk away from a conversation that the hard tops were longer. This person based his argument on the cat walk being deeper.

When I was in my early thirties, I loved the black and silver version with bubble skirts. At nearly 51, I actually think this version was the best.... and I don't usually like red cars

Getting a few around town miles on the 55. Few little things still to take care of.

A four door hardtop was one of the nicest models for the Chevy families. Rolled down windows was the largest opening for full effect of the circulating air while the car moved along without A/C.

    Hello,

In 1959, we were getting ready to go to a friend’s wedding. All “suited up” as teens, was not the most comfortable outfit of the day. But, no Levis at weddings… ha! Our neighbor’s sons, also, were invited and stopped by for final directions in front of our Westside of Long Beach house. They had one of the coolest 4 door sedans that looked as if it was a two door hardtop. At the time, most thought it was a two door, except for the rear door handle. They changed the full hubcap for black painted rims and a small center hubcap for a different look.

One of our other friends did have a two door 56 Chevy Hardtop Sedan and it was very nice. Plus, it was one of the fastest cars in Bixby Knolls with a modified 265, then a bored out 283 + dual quads, then a larger 283 block bored to a 301. Then he ruled the streets for a while. I filmed him at Lion’s Dragstrip, but cannot remember if it was in C/Stock cl*** or C/Gas Cl*** and which motor. It all looked stock at first inspection.

At each “rumored” build, he denied any improvements… (“it came that way…”) But, the last straw was a 352 c.i. SBC, bored and stroked Reath Automotive crank kit and pistons… for the street superiority at the time. A very strong “rumor…”
