Yes. I’ll put a slotted hole in it like the original.

Cleaning up my driver side door. Today I removed primer sprayed by someone else. Didn’t find any body filler. Lower flange is intact. Tiny tiny dents at the front edge just below the body line bead. I’m very fortunate that my doors are in such good shape.

don't be surprised after you clean the inside of that door bottom you find some pin holes

  6. I was scoping the Traditional Forums and found the thread that he started, showing his coverage of the Round Up. That photo was enlarged and used at the top of his thread and instantly saw your hot rod in the background - VERY COOL HUH?

  7. Wouldn't Jay benefit if he added some drain holes to the bottom of both of his doors, in case he gets caught in a rainstorm? If I might add, before Jay gets her back on the road, coat the entire bottom of both bottoms of the doors with black POR-15.

the doors originally had a relief at the ends of the filler board that went against the outer tin to drain any water that got inside.
probably best to sand blast the rust off than to rely on the chemical hocus pocus.

I'm getting close to putting my '31 coupe on the road (not done by any stretch of the imagination but driveable). A buddy stopped by and we got to talking about door garnishes and metal parts on the doors. The top of my doors (the part that points at the sky when open) are bare wood, he says there should be a metal strip up there- makes sense, all the wood is protected by metal on the rest of the car. I got this car as an empty shell and a bunch of boxes so I've never seen it complete.
Does anyone have a photo of that area or of the part that should be up there?

I’m 98% sure there isn’t a metal cover for the top of the doors. I’d have to put together an old computer to confirm, but went through my door parts and interior parts and there’s none. Pretty sure it was just painted wood tacked to the shell with a small gutter cut into it.

You might try hitting up @31chevymike to confirm. There’s a few 31 bowtie builds here if you use the search function(also in the sticky build thread).

my first thought also that both the top and bottom had exposed wood. painted to match the metal.

  15. I just took these tonite and saw no metal covering the wood on top of the doors. The latest door I picked up recently is just like yours, with no wood in it. When you're ready for the upholsterer, the shop can take care of covering the wood altogether.

Bead roller was on special. Bought extra dies because I plan to try some difficult bends to make new rocker panels. At the very least I’ll be able to make floor panels.
Pretty happy with it. Better ones on the market but for 5X the money.
This was just a test on 20 gauge galvanized steel.

Stripped everything out of my p***enger door. I often wonder how shocked a 1934 factory ***embly line worker would be if he knew what we would do to these old cars 90 years later.

  25. Sounds good, I have an extra p***enger side door, a nearly perfect original steel gas tank apron (which I had painted Tangerine from an auto body shop), the bottom seat spring for the rumble seat (reproduction - never used), the original fuel tank and other parts if needed.

Did some media blasting of my p***enger door. There will be some pin holes along the bottom 3 inches. Oh well. Rest of the door is cleaning up nicely.

Looks good! My life would be a lot easier if I could run a compressor big enough to do that.

    Both doors are sanded.

    Primer soon.
What can be applied to the bare metal to deter flash rust until I put primer on? What do y’all recommend?
Also, added 2”x 2” square tube to the bead roller plate to reduce plate flex. It’s a common upgrade shown on dozens of YouTube videos.
Before I added the 2” tube I could flex the 1/2” steel plate with thumb pressure because of 19” of leverage.
Now, same 19” but I can’t flex the plate.

I’ve been gathering the necessary tools to fabricate repair panels. Bead roller, sheers, and now a stretcher and shrinker set. Gotta build a stand for them with foot pedals.
This weekend I hope to work on the frame too. Got both doors stripped and interior metal in primer. Y’all have been quiet.
