I am building an old school style 36 5 window that has a 400 SBC already in it. I would like to run a 3 Deuce setup in it and recently purchased a Edelbrock C355 manifold with 3 Rochesters and linkage from a friend. I recently discovered that this intake is specifically for the small 265 chevy engines and although you could run it on 350's or even my 400, it will take a lot of port matching AND special Fel Pro gaskets to make it seal and perform correctly. I do not want to cut this up and deal with possible sealing problems etc. With that said, I am going to either sell the intake with the carbs, sell the intake and keep the carbs and buy the correct intake for my 400 OR I am looking at this from Speedway: #9251220 Plain 9 Super 7® 3x2 Carb/Edelbrock Intake Kit, 1955-86 S/B Chevy. Does anyone here have any insight on these new kits from Speedway? Have you installed one and did it wok ok? What problems may you have encountered? I read all their reviews and it looks like it may be a decent setup but I wanted to hear from the HAMBER people first please. Thank you
Buy the manifold keep your carbs. Your carbs are far superior to Super 7 Chinese made Speedway carbs. Good name brand rebuild kits are available for your carbs.
Manifold and linkage is great....carbs? not so much. The Strombergs from England are much superior, if you go that route.
This one ? https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Edel...vy-3x2-3-Bolt-Carb-Intake-Manifold,14173.html No luck with the part number given above. Not sure how a SBC intake manifold is 265 specific ? And save yourself some grief, do a search here, for those "9super7" chinese shit carbs.
I have been running Speedway tri-power setups for 10 and 5 years respectively. I have never had a problem with the 'Chinese' 97s I also run three Rochesters on a Offy intake on my 261. Check out this thread from way back https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/edelbrock-c355.665287/. Stick with the Rochesters and if you are going to upgrade you intake, get one made for Rochesters so you don't use adaptors. Something like this https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Offe...k-Chevy-Three-Deuce-Intake-Manifold,5168.html Warren
I had a tri carb manifold for a 265. With it mounted on my engine, you could still see the intake ports!
I would recommend using the Rochester 2Gs, they're easy to rebuild and tune and you already own a set. Here's the corresponding manifold from Offenhauser: https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Offe...k-Chevy-Three-Deuce-Intake-Manifold,5168.html However, that manifold only works with up to 1986 engines, if you have a newer motor, you would have to go another direction, but I figured with this being the HAMB, you're likely working with a vintage engine.
I have one of those intakes w/rochesters on my bench now for rebuilding, I see somebody has elongated the intake bolt holes as if they stacked some gaskets up to get the ports to work?
Thank you for the info, I have an early 400SBC and will look at the 4 bolt Edelbrock and other manifolds for the 4 bolt Rochesters
It’s the complete setup Speedway offers for $999.00 on sale now and it fits my 400 BUT I think I’ll keep my Rochester and get a new intake as they are readily available. Regarding the 265, Edelbrock used to make them specifically for these early motors but stopped casting them years ago. They have much smaller intake ports that are also closer together so it is challenging to make them work on 350’s and up, you need to port them and run a specific Fel Pro gasket or they will leak. They also downgrade the performance but most are using these for the “look” anyway. I want better performance and the “look” for nostalgia on my coupe project. Mine is in beautiful condition. They are marked “C355” on the casting and I’m going to sell mine as I’m sure there are many early V8’s still around
If you need help setting up your Rochesters for tri-power let me know. If they are not original tri-power carbs there are specific modifications and parts needed to convert them to work properly. The pic is a converted set I finished last week.
Tried the speedway kit ten years ago and although it worked fine at lower to mid rpm, it fell on its face at higher rpm so I traded it off for some 32 ford parts to a buddy that is still running it on his A RPU. The pennies are from the years my 3 kids were born. .
Speedway is priced right and looks like a bolt on and go..f you have time and the desire go old school....
bought a 348 Chevy tri power manifold and carbs,,,, installed the Rochesters on a 350 SBC Offenhauser manifold Enjoyed that WAY more than any 4 bbl I had been running I imagine a 400 with 3-2s would be pretty exciting
If you use Rochester cores (non-tripower) I'd suggest using this $350 kit from Speedway to make the carbs work correctly. The thick butterfly blades in their bases are like original 3x2 so easy to seal. Has the long throttle blade shaft for the center carb. They also have the same kit w/linkage for another $100. I used a combo of linkage I had and made my own. Ended up buying the rod that connects the front and back carbs on the passenger side from Show-Cars.com as it made hooking up the stock kickdown for the trans easier. Installed on my 348 Impala and it worked great. Universal Rochester 2-Jet 2G Tri-Power 3x2 Carb Kit w/o Linkage (speedwaymotors.com)
I’ve got a c55 intake. We’re welding up the outside of the ports than plan to gasket match to work with the large ports on later heads
building up the ports to work with the gaskets. Could of sold it but I think I got $50 in it. Picked up aNOS lincage set up recently
