I can't say where this traveled after it arrived from Italy via Pavia in New York, only that this S.Co.T supercharger is now sitting on my bench.

The 8-Barrel Stromberg intake is some sort of billet-milled aluminum special and the intake manifold appears to be Caddy but I could be mistaken. Neither are marked, but the lower manifold is clearly a cast production piece.

Pretty much all the info I've found on these are for flatheads, so if anyone can divine the origin of the manifold and application of the chain drive, please do!

I ran an Ed Pink, and a Mooneyham, both magnesium, on 2 different Dragsters. 2012-08-31 121849.jpg 2012-12-27 192011.jpg Dragster Vintagespeed BB.jpg

It takes a pretty high “dosage” to get me excited these days. But being able to reunite the only other two known Marshman Flathead Ford Superchargers back with the one I’ve had for a few years does it for me. We’re pretty sure these were made by George Marshman. He was a well known local dirt racer and race promoter. He ran the local Sanatoga Raceway among others in the 40’s and 50’s. His son Bobby Marshman went on to be a successful racer and eventually ran at Indy. Sadly we haven’t been able to find any advertisements or drawings to learn more about these.. but we do know at least three exist and three should be put back on cars and used. Hoping we can use the one complete one to copy the missing parts on the others eventually. Either way I’m thankful to own these pieces of hot rodding and racing history. #irontrapgarage

Normally I don't care for painted blower cases but this is a bit of a novelty.

The original FED was one of the most streamlined race cars for its time. The sleek nose hid the go fast motor and supercharger. Potvin style 671 supercharged motor won a lot of elimination races. Original sound of the Lindley-Hampton FED from Sept. 1959. Film taken in the Summer of 1959 at Lion's Dragstrip.

    Hello,

When we saw our first superchargers, it was in Kenny Lindley/Don Hampton’s "Misfire" FED at Lion’s Dragstrip. The MisFire front mount GMC supercharger FED was outstanding in build quality. Over the years, they went up against many different racecars. But, until the Dragmaster Chassis FED came on the scene, up from Carlsbad, CA to the South, this front mounted 671 was one of the only applications we saw on a Hemi motor.

Thanks @Dean Lowe Nice photo from 1959 in So Cal.

It was a puzzling set up with the supercharger attached to the front of the motor. We have since seen many connections of a similar set up as the years rolled by. The good thing was it was very handy to put the 671 in front of the motor as it allowed for ingenious body styles to help lower the E.T. times.

upload_2024-5-6_2-5-59.png 1959 Lions pit staging road allowed firing up on the short path... leading to the starting line.

It seemed like every time we were at the So Cal drags, (racing the 58 Impala, or later, our 671/SBC 40 Willys coupe,) the Kenny Lindley, "Miss Fire" FED or the Eldon Dye Comp Coupe was there with Don Hampton doing the amazing tuning/driving.

This white dragster was one of my favorite as I took many different angles of photos/films in action.

    1959 Lion's Dragstrip
pits staging lane to the starting line. Most FED race cars took the whole starting procedures past the spectators and turned around to get back to the starting line. Kenny Lindley/Don Hampton usually started with a push truck in the shorter roadway along the side of the Lion’s Dragstrip “class lanes” area.

Kenny Lindley FED with Don Hampton driving

I wanted to show my brother and his friends how I stepped up my filming of the race cars to include some interesting shots. With an infinity fixed lens, I had to have close encounters to get some larger action shots in the pits or staging lanes. So, with that in mind, I stood my ground at the curve in the staging lane for FED race cars. As the Kenny Lindley/Don Hampton race car fired up, it came charging toward me as I was filming the action.

    “Here's coming at you…”

    Note:
Since my 16mm color movie camera was a fixed lens, it was also a silent film camera.
The sleek FED race car we saw weekly was also captured and modified with actual Hampton/Lindley SBC motor sounds, one month later at the Detroit Nationals. I have edited the best sound into my silent film. YRMV

Supposedly early 331 drag motor. I think it already proved itself long ago. I'd run it!

I already posted this on another thread but since it talks about other superchargers in the beginning, I'll post it here also.
