I have seen plastic filters that have stepped sizes onthe in let and out let you could use one and cut the inlet at the 5/16 and the outlet at 3/8"

I have a clear gl*** one that I used a 3/8 put form one filter at a 5/16" inlet.

otherwise braze, solder or weld on a 5/16 tube in to the carb inlet fitting .

Put the tip of the hose in some really hot water for a minute and then push it on the bigger fitting.

along with some lube and a pair of needle nose pliers.
Shove the hose onto the tips of the pliers and then spread the pliers, like you are trying to... make the hose bigger.:D

whatever is on the other end of the 5/16" line, make it 3/8". And use 3/8" rubber to connect the two together.

    Thanks for replys yall !!

I pushed the 5/16" line onto the 3/8" fitting so I could move the truck
Dont like how it is bulged out on the 3/8 fitting

Also, found a QJet or such fitting, 5/8 - 20 that is threaded
If it has a shoulder and will seal to the Carter I can screw in a 5/16 barb

My real old Carter 400 CFM carbs have the same fitting, 5/8- 20 with 3/8 barb

They must have used a 3/8" fuel line off the fuel pump perhaps ??

I always felt more comfortable squeezing a bigger sized rubber hose over a smaller fitting than stretching rubber over a larger size. rubber seems to be weakened when stretched.

yeah, it tears the cloth reinforcement. And if the reinforcement is strong enough that it won't tear, then it won't fit anyways.

  11. edel fittings.jpg I've trimmed the ridge off of the fitting and used a 3/8 compression fitting on it. Use the fitting with a NPT female thread and you can then use corresponding NPT male fitting with 5/16 hose barb on it. You can find the compression fitting in straight and 90 degree orientation, if you need to re-direct fuel line at the carb.
I used compression fitting to make a hard line along the side of carb, to fuel regulator. Grainy picture attached.

Stretching the gas hose sounds like a terrible idea, maybe a good way to cause a fire but a terrible idea.

yes, and often when you cut the smaller part off, you find that the inside diameter is not stepped at all, so you still effectively have the smaller restriction for fuel flow.

You shouldn’t run rubber line between the pump and the carb anyway !!! “Only metal”
