OK a place to post my buddies stretched cab 40 truck !! This thing got deleted whenever it was posted. The cab was stretched 6" and it was done by extending the doors with the 6" centers of donor doors added in the middle of the original doors. The rear fenders were widened by 4" in all hand worked metal. It's been called a street rod, etc on here but this truck is very traditional built, interior and all. The only thing out of the norm is tire size. Again i dont understand the "street rod" ***le...
Your "buddy" obviously has skills. The work looks flawless...hard for me to like any major changes to the '40/'41 Ford p/u's, as I think changing the proportions often miss the mark...factory "got it right".
Great work and a much needed modification. I'm 5"7" and barley can get comfortable in a 40 Ford truck. Anybody 6" and over is cramped in these and earlier pickup cabs, in my opinion. Your friend had somebody with great skills get this done - VERY NICE WORK!!!
I'm on my ninth one of these....by the way I'm 6' 6" tall. If I want comfort I drive one of my OT newer cars.
Yeah but now he gets both ! Great looks AND comfort !! He drives the **** out of it, it's nothing for him to take 2 or 3 hour one way highway trips in it. ..
Nice ride! Since I'm 6'2", I would have to do that to enjoy an early truck. I seriously considered a 41 Chevy build doing just that.
cool truck, just for clarification. That truck has hidden door hinges, smooth running boards, filled cowl vent and 1 piece door gl***. all of which are modern street rod type modifications. There really is nothing traditional about it and that with the wheels are why it was repeatedly deleted on the main board. With that said it is a really cool truck. I just wanted to tell you why it is a modern street rod....
what I was trying to say was that this truck is NOT a traditional custom because of the modern modifications. As far as being a mild custom, no, there are too many modifications for it to be a mild custom, a chopped top instantly makes it at least a radical custom, but as I stated earlier it is not really a custom as much as it is a modern street rod
It’s nice, a little Boyd and Chip more than Pete and Jake’s if you will. 4” wider fenders, smoothy, no chrome, v **** windscreen, those wheels, it’s a cool street rod. I’m sure it wasn’t easy or cheap to build.
I sold a 39 Dodge pickup I built because I couldn't get it comfortable enough for me to drive it. I changed the seat, the seat position, moved and modified the gas and brake pedals, pretty much everything I could think of. I just couldn't get a good angle for my feet while driving it. I loved that truck, but in the end, I couldn't drive it more then an hour before I had to get out of it and walk around. I'm only 6' 1" tall. While I was building the truck, that was a concern, and I even bought another complete truck and had the extra cab in my possession during the entire build. I had considered extending the cab length, 4" would have solved the issues, maybe even 2" would have, it was that close. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I built the truck because I loved that body style. I have not seen an altered cab that looks quite right to me (that includes chopped, lengthened, shortened, sectioned, or widened, but I am OK with channeled). I saw the one posted above a few times before it was removed. I could have easily made my 39 more comfortable for me to fit in and drive during the build process, but then I wasn't sure I would liked the alterations required. It would have ****ed to alter the cab to make it more drivable, but ruin the thing I most liked about the truck, the shape of the original sheet metal, in the process. I elected to build the truck with its original shape, and hoped I could adjust things inside of the cab enough to make it so I could drive it. Though I miss the truck, I am not sorry I chose not to alter the appearance of the truck for the ride quality. My wife, the guy I sold it to, and the guy he sold it to, all fit in it much better then I did, they are all a few inches shorter then I am. The last time I saw the truck, I still liked the shape of it. If the OP's friend like his truck, and others like his truck, that is cool. It looks pretty good, and someone was very good at their craft of building it. My opinion (or yours) probably doesn't really matter to its owner, and it shouldn't! If I'm building it, it has to look right to me. If you like it cool, if not, don't look.
That is a freaking awesome build ,I'm 6'2 and my '35 Ford truck had Mazda pickup buckets, the legroom was pretty decent, but for some reason the '40s do look tighter.well done
No, if I remember correctly he actually built the grille himself and sent it off and had it chromed. He owns a major metal fab shop, things like 5 story ornamental spiral staircases, custom builds anything metal if you have the money. And he is a perfectionist both in his work and his personal life...
Heres a pic of his model A truck he had done. Now this one was one of those trucks that has been in the family forever. I believe it was either grandpa's or great grandpa. This one has been stretched too but this one he had built in California. Codi, starbirds grandson did quite a bit of the work on it. My buddy hired codi to come here for a week or 2 and change some stuff on it. Got to sit and B.S. with codi for a while, hell of a nice kid. ..
