New to the HAMB and wanted to introduce myself. I own a 54 Customline 4-Door. It is completely stock with the I-6 motor. It is currently in the shop getting bodywork done. One of the few things I refuse to undertake myself with this car. I have some pictures of my car in my photo album if you are so inclined to look.
Welcome! That's a nice looking car. I'm looking forward to seeing it when it comes out of the body shop. Be sure to post some fresh photos, okay?
Welcome to the 'club'. Great guys on here that will offer great advice and suggestions. You'll find a full package of talent from these guys on these cars. Enjoy and share pictures!
Nice ride! welcome, anytime you need any help let us know! hey gang, I notice that his front grill does not have the bullet nose! why are some of the customlines different?
Looks like a stock/standard '54 grille to me. Are there differences? If so I'm not familiar. I think it's the '53s that have a more pronounced cone/dagmar bullet center.
Thanks, yea I am biting at the bit to get the car back. I was supposed to have it a week ago but when the car was repainted the Golden Rod Yellow by the former owners they didn't prep the maroon properly first so when they went to color match the paint it wont match properly because the maroon underneath is effecting the color. So they had to have some company come in and color mach it by hand. The cool thing is that I will then have a color number to use in the future for any other touch ups that might need to be done before I officially repaint it some time down the road. Do any of you have your undercarriage coated? The body shop seemed it was strange that mine was.
I had some undercoating on my 54...must've been a dealer add-on thing. I've stripped most of it off over the years, but there's still some here and there.
The undercarriage on both my parts car and the one I'm restoring ('56's) had undercoating but I don't know if it was factory or very long-ago afternmarket application. Pretty thick, gooey stuff, but some of it peeled off to reveal like-new paint underneath. My project car was sandblasted and repainted. No undercoat on it now as I don't plan to drive it during the cold Michigan winters.
Now the front end is completed I dropped the car at a friends house who runs his own shop. We are going to nose, deck, remove the antenna, side mirror, rear door handles, some trim pieces and finally french the tail lights.
Welcome! You'll get a lot of help from the guys here. I've had my 53 fordor for over 35 years and I've learned that there are a lot of differences in 52, 53, and 54. Front fenders and taillights are all different. Rear doors on the 54 are different than 53 and a lot of the trim items don't interchange, so watch what you getting.
Nice car! welcome to the group. I have been to Reno for hot august nites in my 54 Ford for the last nine years but have been going since 79. good times....
Not really interchanging any parts just shaving parts off. Plan on using 56 Chevy tail lights with blue dots for the lenses when we french the tail lights. Thinking about adding merc spears to the side as well. I am playing around with the idea of adding 4 spears instead of three to change things up a bit. Here are the lens I am looking at using
Got started on the body work on Saturday, got almost every hole filled in, only have pictures of the hood will post more as I get them. The plane on the hood was hiding a size-able dent that we will need to take car of.
I know it is green and I plan on painting it but wanted to mount it to start getting the look of the car as it progresses.
I like the plain straight look with out the side chrome molding, looks good. keep us updated on your progress i'd like to see the outcome.
We cannibalized the stock trim rings and use them on the new bezels. We popped the rivets out on the old trim ring and used the light buckets on the new bezels. The first two photos show the light bucket removed from the stock trim ring. Here is the old and the new side by side (we will be replacing the old wiring before we install it.) Here is how the lens and bezel will look
Last night we got the frenched tail light buckets welded on the driver side, primered and the lens installed. We also went through and primered some of holes we created by removing trim and other items like on the hood, antenna, side mirror, and rear door handles.
Welcome to the group. I also live in Reno. Hope your car gets on the road soon and will look for you at various activities.
