Is the Spruce Goose still in the air museum in Oregon? One of the best air museums I've been in. Was it the Evergreen Museum?
Yes, it is still there. The venue was established as the Evergreen Air Museum because it was stared by the owner of Evergreen Aviation. I don't know all the ins and outs of the change, but it is now called The Oregon Air Musem. That Spruce Goose is a BIG SOB!!!
G.I. Joe's was a helluva a store. One-stop shopping for everything from shirts to guns to camping gear to auto parts. The chain started as a single store in Portland, Oreygun that specialized in military surplus, and was a great place to spend an afternoon perusing all the cool WW II stuff....helmets, ammo belts, sleeping bags, tents and all kinds of electrical items. Bayonets and guns! The parking lot had empty bomb casings as parking lot bollards. I worked for a guy that was friends with the founder, who said it ceased to fun and he lost interest when the surplus supplies dried up and they were forced to move to general merchandise. Too bad they couldn't hang on, cuz even with the change in inventory it was still a great store.
