On the Street Brawlers thread on the main board I mentioned my DD, but didn't post a pic because it's completely off-topic. My wife happened to snap this, as we were taking some photos at an abandoned factory. Her day job keeps her too busy to work her editing magic, but I think my very basic efforts aren't too bad: It's my only car at this stage, but it's more of a weekly driver than a daily driver. I'd prefer it to be closer to a monthly driver, because then I can get that 296° cam ... I reckon it fits the Street Brawler definition. It isn't the fastest car in town by any means, but the mods are performance-oriented, the car is more than slightly dog-eared, and it hardly ever gets washed. The 15" Renault steelies will take a bit of kerb rash in their stride, when called upon, and would be cheap enough to replace if it comes to it. Anyone else?
Ned, do a thread build on it as you incorporate some of those ideas you dream about. Are there any pre-66 cars in your country ? Are there any rod clubs or rod runs ? I know/***ume it must be far more difficult to find old stuff in South Africa than it is around here.
This car used to be a decent street brawler. It still runs ok with a roller 383, nitrous, etc. But, it isn’t near as compe***ive as it was back in the early 90’s. And, I’m now older and smarter when it comes to what I try on the street.
That's actually a good idea. I didn't think of it because I'm only invested in a fwd hatchback platform due to a combination of practical necessity and not being able to leave stuff alone. I've been reading up on simple diy water injection, because if I retard the ignition any further the car won't start. Perhaps I'll do a thread on that. There is a fair amount of stuff floating around here, though very little older than around 1934. The cl***ic scene is active enough: a club of which I'm a member is the Crankhandle Club. Viable older stuff tends to be expensive, though. And then we've got a troublesome regulatory regime, which for all practical purposes limits the local hot rodder to grandfathered pre-'94 cars already registered on the system.
Here are some of the street brawlers I had a hand in decades ago. None of these off brands where mine. In our town I was the go to Chrysler guy.
Those were the days, we traveled in a large large crowd and had some fast cars , some did not survive .
Man, that was somewhat of a miracle there. I know we had some close calls and rarely even wore seatbelts other than while racing. One of my buddies always came out in his 70 Charger with a roll bar, harnesses, and wearing a helmet any time he raced. We thought it was kinda silly but pretty sure it was part of his dad being ok with him racing on the street. Our only incidents were with cops and they typically just told us to go home…or sometimes just watched.
These are some of the guys I hung out with years ago and still do a little today. However, I haven’t been out to the racing north of town in years. They did try to call me out on one of their videos the other day… http://www.streetkingsokla.com/
