Hey all, Im still not really sure how to navigate this forum so hopefully this post is in the right spot.
I'm looking for any pics of wide white walls on a late 50s ford in a 15". Im about to grab some for a 59 custom 300 2door, but not sure what what size to get. Its sitting about 3-4" lower on aerostar springs. im using 15x6.5 crown vic steelies and they will be radials so im thinking a 205/75/15 or 215/70/15
even if its not a ford lets see some pics of those tire sizes, or close to, on some similar era cars so i can get an idea of how that tire looks?

    Thanks

  2. 6-70 or 7-10 15s
The 205 and 215-15s are similar in height but will have a little wider thread parttern

Thanks Anthony, so the 6-70 is close to the 205/75 or 215/70? and the 7-10 a little bigger?
Im thinking one of the first choices might be best since it will be so low. not sure how much of a visual difference there is between the two. also dont want to accidently get something that looks too small. just hoping to see some pics with those sizes to get an idea.

  4. 215/75/15’s on a lowered 59 Edsel which would be similar. I honestly couldn’t remember the size, but thankfully I could read it in the pic from when I painted the wheels. :D

Thank you, that size looks great! do you recall if you had any scraping issues when turning?

  6. Let me ask my son since it was his car.

Also spend a little while reading through past posts about tires. Everything seems to be expensive and hit-or-miss in quality lately. Educate yourself on who's good on price, quality and after sale service. This is probably one of the highest concentrations of WWW vintage tire buyers in one place.

Here is my 1950 Packard on a set of Coker L78-15 Bias Plys, with 4 inch white walls. Similar in size to a 225/75R15. I think a larger white wall is needed under larger cars, and late 50's Fords had defiantly gained some heft over the decade.

Beautiful Car! those white walls look great against the green.
Yeah the 59 is a chunky car, maybe i'd be better bumping up to a 215/75/15. just to give a little more meat without risking clearance issues since its so low. i was worried the 205/70 or 215/70 may be a little too small looking under the car. its a tough decision at the price these tires are. I dont want to regret it lol
