quick question, I want to lower the back of my 54 poncho(doesn't everyone) anyway, I was eyeing up the blocks for the back that I got off of a friend and I was wondering...the mounting of the axle to the spring perch is offset, how do I get past this issue? THX
it may just be me... but I read your post 4 or 5 times, and I am still not sure exactly what you are talking about.. Maybe a few more details will get some people to respond?? ~Bryant
If I umderstand you right, Your talkin about the pin on the leafsprings where the spring pad on the rear end sits? If its like a 54 chevy you can drill a new hole in the pad, but then you cant really run blocks. A few places have relocators that I guess go between the block and the spring and move everything to where it should be. BRS has em I think. I hope that was your question??? Post a pic for me will ya?-J.
sorry, I will try it again The leafs in the back don't have U bolts that go over the axle, they go over the bracket that is welded to the front of the axle instead. I was wondering if someone had put blocks on their 54 poncho/chevy. Is it possible without completely reworking the mounting points of the springs.
I put 3 inch blocks in my 54 pontiac with no problems at all. I am not sure either what the problem is??
Im not sure, is the 54 pontiac a torque tube car like a 54 chevy? Your concerned about the wheels being centered in the wheel opening right? Unless I just dont get you, my previous post should help out a little... We'll get this fingered out...... -J.
Ahahahaha! A CANADIAN 54 Poncho is built on the chevy ch***is. Has the chevy torque tube. Look again. a lowering block will go between the axle housing and the bracket. Can't remember for sure but you may have to drill the centerbolt locator hole in the lowering block to re-center the wheels again. I know it can be done because I did this job [on my 52 chevy] in an apartment parking lot but it's been over 20 years ago.
