    Yep.
    It’s been in a pasture since 1978.
So I’m gathering parts. It needs a lot. The first thing to do is get it to roll. Right now it’s locked up on 4 flats. I had to drag it off the trailer.

It’s really a decent old truck.
I’m going to get it to roll. Then I’ll pull it into the shop.
    I’ll make it stop.
    I’ll make it turn.
Then I’ll repair or replace what’s rusted away.
After all that I’m going to ruin it with a 283.

Don’t have to ruin it. You said Effie, that means it needs an FE.

EFFIE, old people take the time to spell things out, saves going to Google the definition.

    Piss them all off.
Have “powered by SBC” stenciled on the hood sides:)

FWIW, I’ve always associated Effie with Ford PUs from the start of F1’s to the ‘56 year.

Effie is a euphemism for a four letter word that starts with F.

or a vehicle nomenclature that starts with F.

Everything sold since 1903, sounds a bit vague. I did punch in EFFIE in an eBay search and turned up a postmark from EFFIE, Minnesota, 1955 Ford Pickup turned up 4100 hits.

Careful with your searches, guys. If the Urban Dictionary is anything to go on, that's one hell of a truck.

She's a cutie. When you lower it, make sure and move the front axle forward about two inches, Those things are just a tad buck toothed and it gets worse when they are low.

And, don't forget a build thread.

So…the first Gen ford truck came out in 51? What do they call the first 40 or so years worth? Oh yeah, hot rods!

Not counting the “big trucks such as TTS and AAs, the first truly purpose built Ford Light duty truck was 1937. Prior to ‘37 Ford trucks shared the same chassis as a car.
In the 1910s and 20s It was common to remove the turtle deck on a runabout or the rear section of a touring car and use a home made bed. Companies started making these beds.
It was either 1925 or 1927 when Ford built a “truck” which was simply a runabout (coupe) with a factory built bed instead of a turtle deck.

1948 was the first year for the Ford F series. The ‘48 Bonus Built was Fords first all new post war vehicle.
1953 was the second generation F series and the first to use.....
    100.... 250...300....
As far as I know there was not a F200 like there was an F2.

See, starts with “F”. I’m certainly not saying it’s a definition.
Just what I was used to the trucks being called at a much younger age.

A slight correction: Ford light duty pickups used the same frame as passenger cars up until 1941. The first Ford light duty pickups to use a pickup exclusive frame was 1942 which was more of a straight rail ladder frame and incorporated a parallel leaf spring front axle (while the passenger cars used the transverse spring front axle up until 1948).
And yes, 1925 was the first year Ford offered a factory pickup...which was a roadster with a 56" long, 40" wide bed replacing the turtle deck.

There’s a 54 on our local Craigslist now down to $1000 in similar condition.so temping to haul it home just don’t need a bunch of future projects sitting and rotting til I get to it.

A friend had one many years ago, that he pulled the dead flathead from. When he replaced it with a 283/Powerglide combo from a '61 Impala, he used one bolt on the front mount kit that was a touch too long, binding up the fuel pump rod. After replacing the fuel pump several times, he gave up and used an electric Lucas pump, that ran for many years. When the 283 gave up (after 20 plus years of daily F100 service), it was finally discovered why the mechaniacal fuel pumps refused to pump.

Nice old truck. I'm a Mopar guy, but what's wrong with a 283? They are nice reliable engines and really easy to work on. The first engine I worked on was my older cousin's 265.

It will make you a good driver and the 283 is a very good choice.

The talk of the 283, reminded me of when I was 16/17 years old.
To get to my girlfriend’s place. I had to drive through Turlock.
The phone rang and her mom said just a minute, my dad was calling me.
He says I was looking in the paper and a guy has ‘56 Ford pickup”. I think was maybe under 500, fair price in the ‘70s.
Asked if I could get there and look at it by 9pm.
    Sure, so off I went.
Was a decent truck, manual trans, and SBC. I don’t recall the size.
So went home and told my dad about the truck and said a “sounded like a good running engine”. He asked and I told him a Chevy.

    Aw, no way.
    lol.

Thing is years before that he put a BBC in his ‘57 Chevy PU.
    Before that a 292 in a ‘46 Chevy 1.5 ton truck.
I never did ask him why he was against a SBC in a Ford, heck he was Chevrolet through and through.
Yes, takes me sometimes to remember things.

But I can say this, no one has ever given me a ‘55/6 Ford PU before!
