    yeah, that's life! at least it's hard to see the scattershield when it's in the car.

    Engine is in...now for the fun work of getting it all connected back together, and see if it will run. I still have to work on the "new" carb, too.

  5. After looking at the above picture, I never realized how the Corvette engine mounts on the front. Are the accessory drive pulleys Corvette specific because of the front motor mount being under the water pump and changing pulley alignment?

    there is a spacer that goes on the crankshaft before the balancer is put on. The spacer is the same thickness as the motor mount. That’s how they got the pulleys to line up

    and when looking into SBC pulleys and water pumps, they have a different WP.

    There are a lot of flavors of water pumps for Chevys...they made the engine for decades, and things about the cars changed over time.

    The Corvette also uses the fitting on top, for the surge tank. Some trucks used it for a bypass hose, too.

    All small block Chevys are alike, except the Corvette engines where the engineers did their own thing! Seems like to be a true Corvette engine something had to be different, even if it was something small.

    The mount is set up that way because the steering gear is right in the way of where the mount should be, I think.
     
  13. As many Corvette engines that are in hot rods, there should be thousands of those motor mounts for sale at swap meets.

  19. That photo shows how it all goes together, online it seems every car has the radiator still in and blocking the view of the frame mounts.

    You'd be surprised what sealing a few holes and some creative ducting can do.
    Cutting a hole in the hood for a radiator duct is most likely out of the question(traditional Cunningham LeMans stye 1960-Chevrolet-Corvette-Front-Angle-740x493.jpg but that fence can be detracting. ) but would you be willing to do a front snorkel duct, NASCAR style, between grille opening and face of radiator?

    Cooling problem with most cars is simple lack of basic ducting for heat extraction. Just a giant maw gulping in air directionless. Most which just slams into a radiator support and dispersing all over the face of the radiator, with quite a bit spilling over, under, and around the radiator. Not aiding in going through to cool, just pressurizing the engine bay and heat soaking the engine.

  21. When I was looking at 62's for that motor mount I ran across this one and was wondering if you have the scotch-brite option on yours ?

    That's probably a dealer installed fuel leak absorber. WoW, check that super trick carpet mount on the overflow tank with the HP flat hose:eek: Holy Moley

    man... there is so much wrong with that picture, check out the screws holding the top of fender stainless trim on...

    Anyways, thanks for making me feel good about how my car looks, it could be a whole lot worse!

    I got it all together and went for a drive. I have to do some tuning, and it has some valvetrain noise, which it probably shouldn't with hydraulic lifters!

    But the big thing now is the water leak, the temp sender hole in the intake is oversize or something. Maybe I'll JB weld the sender in place?
     
  27. Maybe try a bunch of extra wraps of teflon tape, we get away with that in the steel mill

    I played with a few different senders, and another random 1/2" npt fitting, and teflon tape...it seems to be getting looser. It felt ok when I first installed the sender, but it seeped water. Now anything I put in bottoms out finger tight! even wrapped with several layers of tape.

    I don't see any cracks...but the boss is not very deep, only about 4-5 threads.
