Funny Cars

  1. I gotta agree with you on the whole potato shape thing. But when you're standing next to one and FEEL the launch even more than you hear it, and realize that Tasca went 341 (in 1000ft!) this year, then there's some leeway for today's experience. It's today's Pro Stock that I no longer watch - the all-BBC parade (even the Quadra's Mustangs have 'em) and boring launches make the class a snoozer, in my view.

  2. After the Dutchman's Charger III body was griped all over ("non-production body!" "unfair advantage!"), they replaced with this Maverick body and ended up going even faster. I'll have more C-III photos coming up.

  3. Econo-Altered (E/A) was supposed to have been a "low-cost" class for the "little guy," but it was instantly invaded by Pro-Stock level engines and it really didn't last as long as people had hoped. The good thing is that there was a wide variety of cars that showed up to play, including this Challenger funny car.

  4. This was Al Vander Woude's last funny car. (His son, Donnie, would put together a Dodge Avenger-bodied car in 2000 - I was fortunate enough to be the clutch monkey on the car.) After this they went blown hydro racing and then sprint cars with Greg Weld - of Weld Wheels fame - as one of their drivers.

  6. I really wish I had something like this. Nitro-injected 289 and "fast enough."
