I have an opportunity to purchase a strong running 312 from a friend who wants to pull it to put in a 351 they had built. My dad has ridden in the vehicle and is the one who said it was strong and I have seen a video of it running. I'll be driving the car before a final sale is made.
The owner has a receipt with all of the Mummert parts in the engine. and the engine comes complete from top of the air cleaner to the oil pan including the engine mounts. The owner is keeping the 5speed attached to it which is fine because I want to keep my AOD. I know there are adapters out there for this setup and was curious if anyone has already done this and which company they went with for the adapter.

Check out this older information on the Ford Barn.

I used Bendsten - now Speed Gems (and even more expensive) to put an AOD behind the 272 in my 55 Customline. There didn't seem to be other available options at that time. Mine is still in the "project" stage, so I can't say how well the combination actually runs. Everything does align well between the engine, adapter plate, and transmission.

The original starter is replaced by a high torque mini starter. Some material must be reomved (red marked area) to clear the starter drive in its extended position. I drilled a few holes to remove most of the material, and then went to work with a die grinder.

This leaves a small hole due to wall thickness in that area. Put tape on the inside and build up epoxy on the outside to close up the hole.

I used to have pictures of the engine, adapter, and AOD bolted together and sitting in the frame, but those vansihed from my computer. This is the only view I hae available now.

Good luck, and let us know what direction you go.

Thanks for the Ford Barn links. So far you are the only person I know who has done this swap. I'm really curious to know how well that epoxied hole will hold up over time. I have been looking at the Speed Gems adapter and also this one from Performance Adapters https://performanceadapters.com/pro...bf-aod-or-modular-6r80-automatic-transmission

This is a picture of the y block I'm looking to get. it is currently in a 55 wagon. 312yblock.jpg

Looks like a stick shift car with a changed foot feed in the car. Your wanting to keep your AOD…what’s it behind now? Does your AOD have all the proper YBlock foot feed linkage or you planning changing it. If you are currently using an AOD you know how important the feed and cabling is….

Yes, the Y-Block is currently in a stick shift car and the transmission currently behind it would be staying in that car and bolting up to the 351. I would be pulling my 5.0 out and replacing with the 312 and marrying that up to my existing AOD. I already have the plate for the back of the carb for the accelerator and TV cable so would just move that over as well.

All of this is really a moot point as I've decided to p*** on the 312. Not enough was know about the engines true history (e.g. when was it rebuilt and how many miles are on it since). I'm in the same boat with my current 5.0 motor.
So, I'm thinking I'd rather spend the money to rebuild the current 5.0 and then have full confidence and knowledge in what I really have.
