Sounds to me like some valves are tight in the guides . Most modern machinists feel that the guides must be super tight,,,,,and use seals that allow Zero oil to the guides . Maybe in a race engine,,,,,but not a street car ,,,,,a street engine needs a little lubrication for the stems ! The engine will build up heat in the valve stems on the street,,,,,all it takes is being just a little too tight ,,,and too dry . (A little too lean makes a difference also .) You would never know this in a drag car,,,,,not enough time to build heat up the stems . Tommy
Threw NGKs in, backed off valves a quarter. Sounds really good at idle and smooth at 2500. Going to install heat dissipate base gasket and probably throw a new cap/ rotor in for heck of it. Then we’ll road test at op temp.
Sounds like a plan! I'd take along one of those temp guns for your next drive. Check each exhaust temp, coil temp, intake runner temps, anything that might point to some off on the engine. They are really great at finding the variation of things. If nothing else, you will have a baseline for these temps if all goes well.
