Getting ready to send parts to be chromed including the handle that opens the rear hatch/tailgate. I have it off and there is a small hole I think is to insert a pin punch or something similar that then depresses a detent pin (?) allowing the lock cylinder to be removed. (I do have the key) It doesn't seem if anything depresses when I insert a drift into the hole. I've sprayed it with PB Blaster but no help. Am I missing something? Any and all help greatly appreciated. TIA.

On most ignitions with the push pin the lock has to be turned to a certain position for the pin to release the lock. A paper clip usually is enough. Not sure on the tailgate lock

Thanks. The shop manual I have lists info for the trunk but not a wagon. But I'll give it a try tomorrow. With the key turn 1/4 turn clockwise and push the release ****on with a piece of wire.

Turning the key 1/4 turn clockwise and push the release ****on is how I took my trunk cylinder out. Mine was acting up, sometimes it worked, sometime not. I got lucky when I was ready to remove it, it turned. I think the cylinder would be the same. Here's a picture of mine the way it came out, the pin is depressed. I attempted to turn the back counter clockwise to show the pin popped up but it didn't wont to cooperate. I didn't have a hole to press the pin, I was able to access from the back with a small screw driver.

So far no luck on the 1/4 turn clockwise and push the ****on. Not sure if it's just rusted/corroded or if I don't have the correct sequence. I'll try a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF instead of PB Blaster and see if that changes anything.

Good news and bad news. Got the cylinder out but it was damaged in the process. New cylinders are available for '54 trunks. They looked the same as the wagon tail gate but not positive. Anyone know for sure if they are the same? TIA

Found out they are different. Although a p***enger car trunk lock cylinder and a wagon tailgate lock cylinder are very similar in appearance. I found a NOS unit on Ebay. Of course more $$ than a repop car cylinder but NOS is better than repop and it's the correct part.
