Did everybody but me know this was going on? https://www.fastcompany.com/9113259...of-urban-decay?utm_source=pocket-newtab-en-us https://www.detroitnews.com/in-dept...ears-of-michigan-central-station/73850458007/
I would think it would have been hard to miss these last 6 years if you're in the Detroit metro area. It's an impressive place that cost nearly a Billion dollars to restore.
I remember several years years ago there were some plans being discussed for a possible renovation. But I hadn't seen any details more recently that the wheels had been set into motion. I don't often get to the Detroit area, but next time I do I'll try to make plans to check it out. And maybe a side trip to Vinsetta Garage. Hats off to Ford Motor Company for stepping up to the plate to make this happen.
Just back from Detroit, I will say the train station is quite impressive, and I am not sure if I caught that in these pictures. This is an outside elevation.
Generally funded by Ford, a bit by google and some others. A billion bucks gets you a couple of buildings restored and 30 acres in downtown Detroit.
Thanks for posting these pics. It looks like it would have been difficult to take any shots of the place that didn't make it look grand! Can you imagine the activity in this station when the trains were still regularly running thru there? The aerial views from the 18th floor are spectacular. You must have been doing something right to get that kind of access.
I was able to ride the coattails of my niece. The top two floors are being leased out to a top end motel chain, so someday everyone will be able to check out that view.
Talk was that there would be a couple of floors of retail, a couple of floors of Ford offices, the hotel/motel space and some special occasion/wedding venue space. Ironically it sounds like a few blocks away General Motors is pulling out of the Rencen, and they might tear it down.
