The stock steel 16” rims on my 47 Ford convertible are 4.5” wide. What maximum recommended tire rim size have others used and had no issues , for example a 5”-7” recommended tire rim size. Thanks
So are you looking for something to fit your 4.5"wheels, or are you talking about buying a 5-7" wheel? What type of tire are you looking to run? Bias or radial? Devin
I have run 7.50s on 4-5" rims. Not recommended but I was young and did not know it would not work. No real problems.
Devin , using the stock 47 Ford steel 16” rims which I believe are 4.5”. Currently on the car with 6.00-16 white wall bias ply tires. Going with radials , possibly Diamond backs auburns , not sure if 7.00R-16 will be to big for these rims on the rear or use 6.50R-16. Front will be 5.50R-16 or stay with 6.00R-16. Wanted feedback on this combination , even using other brands.
I'm also looking at the 700 or 750 Auburn tires for the rear of my roadster and am trying to find 16x5 wheels for a good fit.
These are DiamondBack Auburn 7:00x16 on the rear of my '40. The fronts are 5:50x16. I'm running the later 42-48 style rims that are 4.5 wide.
49, thanks for the link to rim thread. Dan, Dave, Zax are these stock rims and if so are you running radial tubes with thees radial tires. Zax, I like the rake , I assuming you still have the stock springs and stock axle. What is like taking the rear tire off , I will probably have more clearance to the fender on my 47. Flathead47
My tires are bias ply with tubes but I’ve heard of people running bias without tubes. I don’t think you need tubes with radial tires.
