Hot Rods 41 ford truck deep front crossmember

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Copperhead snake, Jun 10, 2024.

  1. I want to keep the I beam front end, and will drop the axle, play with the spring, etc. searched the internet, no luck, , any loose ones out there?, I refuse to go IfS Anybody?

  2. yep, putting a 289 in my 39 sedan, , trying to do this old school style, got the bronco oil pan , but the deep crossmember should help clear everything .. The stock 39 crossmember, ain't gonna get it.

  3. I get it now, you are wanting to put the truck crossmember in your sedan frame?

  4. Exactly, the deep crossmember should clear the bronco pan without having to jack the front of the motor too high, A dropped axle with the rite spring package should put everything back to normal.

Just so you are aware, there are two front crossmembers for 41 Pickups.
The 8 cylinder (front, which is the same as 35-40 p***enger cars) and the 6 cylinder (back, 41 PU only).

  7. If I'm not mistaken, couldn't you use an oil from a Mustang to clear your original crossmember? It would save a lot of work, "IF" I'm thinking correctly?

  8. Yeseree, the one in the pichure is the one I'm looking for, , supposedly was for the strate 6, and then all 42 on up 1/2 ton trucks, 'till the switch to parellel leafs in 49. I got the bronco pan and the fox mustang pan , they're almost the same. I can cut and modify the stock 39 crossmember, but I'm getting lazy in my old age, and knockin' out some rivits and boltin' the new one in is a lot qwiker/easier. The simple solution ,looks to be the deep dropped crossmember.

  9. @Cheetahman I think I've seen your sedan in the 39-40 Sedan thread, seems to be a pretty nice ride!

Just a correction for you, but Ford went to parallel leafs in ‘42 Pretty much the same as the ‘48-? F1’s.

  12. Yep, been wantin' a 39/ 40 for a long time, finally found this rascal last winter, in the barn since' 62, all there and unmollested( that's my job). The flatty is locked solid, so a 289 is going in the engine bay, trying to do it mid 60s style, like you had a newly wrecked mustang with a good motor to help with the swap

    Just a FYI

I’m from the lowered to the ground camp

That deep crossmember will make your truck sit higher. The dropped axle and spring messing around will only bring it back to a stockish height.

There is no problem with this if that is the ride height you are desiring.

  14. I knowed there was one of them out there, sent you a message Treb11, thanks b

  15. Jim B , the roads around here ain't very hospitalble so I'm good with stock ride height, plus I like to bomb around the backroads in the fall to see all the fall foilage with the kids, even ford the ocasional creek now and then.
