Ok….I’ve been waiting years for this…Super Stock Thread

Ok so I love Super Stock and Drag Illustrated Magazine…but it started past the “usual” HAMB cut off date…I can now post away…so here we go…

 

I’m a Blue Oval guy…but man these make great drag cars….

 

Sexy…Red…bad ass….and a Ford….

Super stock and the following Pro stock have always been my favorite. It's funny, they are still running some of those 60's cars today, and making new records with them!

Looks like this one lost it's ass once er twice..... No bumper!..

 

The first Super Stock meet, I went to at Atco. A lot of heavy hitters were there!

Bad Ass non factory backed S/S Mustang…

 

These were the cars I really loved to watch. A kid growing up I was 13 in 1975. Until about 17 in 1979 thats all I did was go to the race track every chance I had. I lived in Puyallup so Spanaway speedway was local and available almost any weekend & Seattle international raceway I went often.
Went a few times to 64 funny cars in SIR. Garlits, Prudhomme, jungle jim, snake & Mongoose, Little red wagon ..... Was good entertainment but just seemed so commercialized.

Then there was the class that I call "run what ya brung" class .... some faster then others ... lots of fun for the drivers, just a little boring for the spectator .... watch someone run a 19 second pass in their 1972 Vega .... some were better and more competitive.

The super stocks is where it was at, these guys were serious racers, they were competitive.
They did not have 6 professional mechanics for a pit crew ... usually car owner and a couple buddies helping out. Many had sponsors and that certainly helps the budget.
They had to survive with their wit and skills. ..... To me that is where the real drag racing was going on.
