What happens to the rubber on the trans mount when it goes in the tanks?

 

I asked about that before sending it, and they said it would not be affected. The rubber still looks new after plating.

 

I'm looking for a pair of aftermarket "shorty" rear bumper brackets, similar to these.


Chrome, Stainless, plain steel. Let me know what you have, as I need some for the 5W. Anyone holding a pair?

I sent the above bumper iron builder above both a PM and an e-mail. I asked if he would be interested in coming out of retirement to make me 20 pairs. We'll see? I'll report back. Never know his current status? Gary at Cornhusker

 

Neal, is your fuel pressure gauge a Marshall and do you have any experience with them? I'm currently running a Moon but wondered if the Marshall was a better gauge.

 

I hope you get a positive response Gary, I have been running a wanted ad for a pair or pairs for the last 10 months. Put me in for a pair if you resell them, also a pair for NealinCA seeing this is his thread. 60 Special

 

I will take a set as well. Is there something special about the material? Thinking a heave truck spring shop could make a up a pair if they had the dimensions.

 

I spoke to Ray and Ian at Roadster Supply. They are in the process of having "shorty" rear 32 bumper brackets made. I put my name in for a pair from the initial run. No firm time frame yet, as I know these things can take a while to become reality. I will keep you all posted if I hear any updates.

 

I just talked to a fellow that built tooling and made a few sets, but didn't think there was a market for the shorty brackets. He said he'd look at making a small run and let me know. One more lead.

 

I could use a set too, so looks like just on this thread there's an opportunity for at least 25 sets. Given how many folks have drifted from these pages favoring Instagram, there's probably a lot more potential out there. If he convinced himself there's not much of a market, maybe he's not much of a marketer in addition to being a technician.

 

Are there any new bumpers being made now? Any good? Not many original bumpers worth a darn that aren’t on a car already.

Thanks for that Luke, with your connection to Moon you'd know the correct info. Don't remember any info on the gauge. No need to switch it out then.

 

Marshall seem to be a good Quality,
I did have one that was about year old give me a Scare,, It blew out seal Fuel every where , Luckily hot tubes did not
Light the fuel up ,,, Could of happen with other Name brands , High pressure set up , 75 psi , I changed over to a sending unit , In pass Never had Name brand blow a seal .

 

Here's my sad story from LA Roadster's swap.

I bought a 32 hood top at the Turlock swap years ago. It has some unique 5" louvers, and I have been on the hunt for some matching hood sides ever since.

With no luck, I did buy some smooth hood sides and started working on getting some dies made.



Thursday afternoon, on set up day at LARS I spot this hood. My heart was racing and I was reaching deep into my pocket for cash...



Then I saw this.


I was kinda over the whole swap meet at that point and didn't really go out shopping the whole weekend.

I will keep on with making our own dies, but I would have loved to owned those vintage hood sides. You win some, you loose some.

Ya still could have asked. Any true blue hot rodder would have let them go to your good cause.

 

We did ask. The answer was a hard NO! The hood is headed to Sweden.

Neil, That's a bummer. Looked for you around, did not see you... I was in my spot JJ-20 most of the weekend...

 

Neal, I had some holes punched at Blair’s in the early 70’s, think they are 4 inch, but if the press is still there maybe there’s different dyes too. When I get up into the rafters I’ll take a picture.

Well they are not exactly like yours, a little flatter at the ends and 3 and 3/4 tip to tip.

 

Thank you for the pics. Those are neat louvers, but very rounded profile. I will keep "pressing" on with making dies to match the hood tops...

 

After welding the C-notch and spring notch, the rear frame horns pulled down a little, leaving a gap between the body and tank. We put the car on stands with a strap through the doors to some anchors I have in the shop floor. We then heated right at the spring notch with a rosebud and jacked up the tails of the frame horns with 2 bottle jacks. I went gradually side to side, taking the gap from about 5/8" down to about 1/8" at the frame horn cover. It took longer to get the car set up than it did to do the job. One more task off the list though.

 

I'm going to guess you are real glad you found this gap before you chrome plated the rails.
