Yes, I saw them. Decent price. The 3 wheels look really nice, the last wheel , face is nice, but needs some work. Hopefully can be saved. Have seen them cracked and welded, but the cracks seem to return.

    Hi there,
Thanks for the kind words. The front is a stock width beam with adjusters. The height is just set so the tires fill the opening. 145-15 front tires. Old Hurst adjustable shocks they can be set 90/10 or 50/50. The back has short 21mm torsions with Sway Away adjustable spring plates. It is set so the tires sit square at rest. Koni shocks in the back. Rear tires are M&H 215/65/15 for racing & Pirelli P6000 215/60/15 for street use. Hope this helps

That is amazing for a N/A street car that drives hundreds of miles. He has really got that down. I hope he does well.

This '65 belongs to 'Juke Joint Johnny'. A few years ago, we took it out of a very long hibernation, and participated in the Grand National Roadster Show's special exhibit building. In 2022 the theme was the 'Gathering of Hot VWs' exhibit presented by EMPI and Hot VWs Magazine.

He'll get on later tonight, and share some history on the car.

Never thought id see this day! Any way, heres my 65, first of I 'resto'd' it, a few accesories, and it was VolksWorld mag featured like this. Then I resto-cal'd it, basically all those doo-dads but lowered and brm copies, then I 'hotrodded' it, the idea was a 'highscjhool hotrod' type of thing, always liked Pat's maroon bug he did, (on the first page of this thread) so that was a bit of an influence. Brizio bumpers, louvers, pinstriping, early taillights and rare at the time porsche pattern ARE's. I sold it about 18 years ago to help fund my 40 sedan, but it is still around, although sitting in someone else's garage, gathering dust.
Last pic is our buggy, built late 80's, alot of influence from a magazine featured buggy of the time, We still have this one, its alot of fun
Also have a 54 oval that ive owned since I was 15, and am just starting to get back into, its been tucked away for over 30 years.
Going back to the first post, I bought a vw because I liked 40 fords, but they didnt exist in the UK back then, and I could afford a bug, a 54 that was£50.00 at the time. I then found out about the cal look thing, yep, back in the early 80's, it was making its way to the UK, and that is the route I started to take with the 54, dropped it on a 68 1500 pan because they had disc brakes (no aftermarket brakes were available then, sway-away adjusters were mind blowing!) and arguably better suspension. Its still on the 68 pan, and after a lot of thinking, I've decided to carry on with that, its they way I wanted to build it. I did buy a 'hot' Berg motor for it back in the 80's, 2.3 something or other, its all still boxed up in my Mums house, not sure if i'll build that up or not, or just use the 1776 that I had built for my green 65, but sold the car before it was fitted, Maybe fit the Clyde Berg heads on the 1776 with 48's.. but I also need to build my 40, get my 71 Bay Window back on the road, and look at my wifes 64 Razoredge resto..

Punched the front and rear deck on this one a long time ago. It was a bit different, Mazda rotary and a beefed transaxle, it boogied! Louvered a lot of VW stuff in the 80's, some shipped to Japan. The lovely Mrs. 99 drove a 2nd owner [her] 3300-mile car when she bought it, 1976 standard bug, last year of high school, through college, and into her working career. We sold the car in the late 90's to a nice hippie chick from Bellingham and have regretted it ever since. Sure would like to have the "Silver Bullet" back.

  13. My ‘66 is “Captain America” because of the interior. It hasn’t been registered since 1992, but runs like a top. Soon it will have the 2276 and 5 speed. The squareback belongs to my friend, Bryan. BB8FB777-5108-4046-99D0-01D7299319C9.jpeg C2E95805-446C-44A5-9AB5-0543D2892CF5.jpeg
