Seeing the store in the top picture and the ads for lard reminds me of my mother. In the middle of out stove, between the burners, she always had a can of Crisco and a huge spoon. She would turn on the burner, add a full scoop of Crisco, and then add whatever we were having to eat. Not to healthy, but really good.
My mom kept a 1lb can of bacon grease under our sink. We were meat and potatoes, mostly fried, and she baked. She used Crisco shortening for baking I don't know how old you are but I'm 77 and living to tell about it.
