New 460 timed at 10 deg, idles good but missing all through rpm band. Installed new Holley annihilator cd box, new stock distributor, mild cam. Firing order is double checked good. Pulled cap off with engine at 10btdc and rotor is not lined up with number one terminal but a 1/4” past it . Shouldn’t rotor be directly on #1?. How do I fix out of phase rotor?
10 deg to low , 15 ish or higher , Are you sure you're not 10° retarded , & Are you trying to actually phase the rotor button like with some Ignition boxes require? , What your showing is normal on the leading edge of the electrode of cap, There is Adjustable rotor cap, @ least for Gm , & Or crank trigger , phasing
Probably NOT your problem...but years ago had a similar problem on a "fresh" 260 Ford engine built by a reputable Ford guy. Drove us nuts for weeks. Finally figured out in assembly, the cam gear was one tooth off from the crank gear.
By the pic rotor looks after TDC assuming black line is being used as number one cylinder of cap pole/electro. Ford counter clock rotation
Best as I remember Ford balancers are maker A for AFTER and B for BEFORE . GM are A for ADVANCE and R for RETARD . Easy to mix them up as I may have , it’s been a long time . I nearly always set time to 37 dog at 2000 rpm and let to drop back to where it by at idle .
If you’re not used to Fords it’s good to know the distributor rotates counter clockwise. Could be one tooth out?
Thanks for the input 10° advanced timing is low because distributor is new and haven’t recurved it yet,. Maybe this CD box requires rotor phasing? Haven’t found adjustable Ford rotor yet. Cam was degree in on Central line method as well as 50 and checked out good. Vacuum gauge shows 16 pounds at idle. Yes, the rotor goes counterclockwise. Black mark on right is number one cylinder. Soon as I recurved distributor, I will set 3637 total I don’t know how distributor can be at tooth off when initial timing is correct. The idol is OK, but as soon as it starts advancing, it misses and gets worse when I hook up vacuum advance.
