Carb Gurus so this little tube that comes out of here about 1/4 inch was cracked badly when I popped this Rochester B single barrel open. With a slight touch it sheared off. What do you suggest I do next? Shall I get a similar brass tube drill it out and press it in? Or something else?
With all due respect, the most popular repair of the Rochester model B with Chevy owners is to replace it with a Carter. Check out the "stovebolt" forums. Of course, if yours is a show car, replacement is not an option. Jon
The problem is I have to source 2 Carter's then rebuild those. I already have the rebuild kits for the Rochester's I have. Also I am running the Fenton dual intake which I have no idea if Carter's would fit since the one I do have doesn't, and would have to chop the mounting bracket. I just wanted it to continue running the Rochester's until I find the identical replacement Carter's. Any advice would help, I just need to know if that part was cast that way or a pipe added. I am possibly leaning towards braising it back on.
If you have both pieces, make a new one if you can, if it's something you can't make easily, SOLDER it back together. Brazing will be too much heat for a little tube. I don't have one to look at, but doubt it was cast.
I would maybe consider tapping it and making a puller to pull it out. Then you can install a new one. Doesn’t look like it would be too big a deal.
