Getting better all the time Robin! @Nostrebor hooked you up with that front end! His wife makes good cookies too.
Thanks Lloyd! Trevor and Soulman (Saul is his given name and he works with Trevor and is into old Triumph motorcycles and old cars as well...) really did most of the work yesterday. I've been kind of sidelined once again with limitations on what I can do. Something stupid called Charcot Arthropathy has my left foot all jacked up but it's getting better I think! It's time for a sanding party. With a couple people, we could have this thing ready for epoxy primer in a day. @Lone Star Mopar let's get together, bring your DA sander and I'll provide the party favors! Included is an Air Conditioned shop! Anyone else want to come it's all approved!
Jeff, I have been kinda MIA here on the HAMB but there are other things going on in the background. I am working with a friend to get a small auto upholstery business started up. So the first test was on the buckets I had done for my car back in May 2021. I wanted these to match the bench seat, which is pictured below as well.
Yea Yeah but I think the upholstery shop missed the boat on making them look like they matched the bench seat so we fixed them!
Still working on getting them back together. Needing to do some spring modification to make those buckets sit good. They are going in the back, split bench up front.
Jeff if you know of anyone needing seats done, the shop is going to start off doing smaller jobs such as pickup seats etc. Located close to OKC for the moment.
Ok, I see what you are talking about now. They look much better once you got them fixed. I will keep that in mind as far as folks needing seats done. I honestly need my 56 redone soon if you want to tackle the front and rear seats out of it.
Sorry to hear about your foot bro. Your front end is looking way better now though ! Hollar at me when yall are ready to sand it out & prime it. I'll call ya about some seats Id like to get redone.
Looking great Robin! Sorry about the foot, but congrats on the front end and the upcoming upholstery biz!!
I'll come help sand if it is before we head back to Louisiana. Be there for about a month and then head back here.
Welcome! I'm glad you can put it to use. I'm back to working hard for the man, so I hadn't even been on here to see it. Looks great from over here!
We just finally got it put on this past Sunday. I've changed jobs again for the 4th time in 2 years but I think I've finally landed in a great place! So I understand working for the man! That front end was just what the car needed!!
What a big difference! Gotta do a bit more stretching on the bottom but thats not a problem. This is the first time my friend has done any sort of upholstery except for a few test pieces. Hoping we can make a small business doing mainly seats on older cars. Which one do you like? Drivers side or Paasenger side?
Yep, what Mike said. And, I may still be up for a set of seats to get some practice on if I can afford it. Mine have about had it. Both sides of the front seat backs are coming apart where they get sun and wind... My Mexican blanket is becoming a pain to deal with but it keeps the padding off my black shirts.
I like it! Both look good but the one on the left with the pleats all the way to the edge kinda makes it look like a Model A seat.
Just FYI I see steamers for stretching upholstury at Goodwill & Thrift Stores cheap all the time. Ive seen the pros use them to stretch the vinyl tought.
I couldn't have gotten as far as I have without lots of HAMB help, thanks everyone for being the best out there... It's been fun! Lots of delays along the way, health issues, tool buying, shop expansion, all kinds of fun things. But that first drive almost a year ago was well worth the wait! Lots more welding and grinding to do and now freaking foot surgery in a couple of weeks will have me off my foot/no weight for 6 to 8 weeks. I guess I can do some sitting and welding what I can get done down low. Life is good, and if a little foot surgery is all I have ailing me now, I'm thankful and blessed!
I got out in the afternoon heat shaded by lots of trees, moved the citric acid tank to a better locale, and made a fresh batch. 10 lbs to about 200 gals. Dug around in my pile and found a couple of good inner fenders so in they went. Let's see how long it takes.
Here is a question, is 49-50 sheet metal different than 51-52 sheet metal? I think there is some difference and didn't know if grills from each year interchanged.
I’m probably wrong on this Robin, but I think 49 and 50 may interchange and 51 and 52 interchange. But, not sure that the 49-50 interchange with 51-52 without some work. But, from what you have been through so far, you could graft about anything on.
Like Jeff, I can't swear to it, but I thiiiiiiink the answer is yes and no.....? I think the 51/52 will bold up to a 49/50, but there's differences in the parking light/sides of the grille area. So, if you use a 51/52 inner fender well, I think you gotta use a 51/52 fender....or do some surgery to either one to get the corners to fit together. A million years ago in a different lifetime, I wanted a 52 grille in my 50 Fleetline and got the whole 52 front end out of the junk yard and it seems that was the big difference between the two sets.
